There was an SSM on this very issue. Unfortunately Ford has removed it from the TRC. I'll keep looking to see if I can find it. No worries though as the SSM stated this was a normal startup strategy of the 3.5L Ecoboost.

I can assume the dealer filled it with 87 regular when they gave it to me.

Could it be a spark knock or something to that affect because of the difference in fuel type?

I just assumed my engine would run better/cleaner if I stick with 92
It's not tuned for 92 octane. It's not your problem.

All ecoboosts do this or have this noise but maybe not as loud as you are describing.

Its a blow off valve sound - maybe a defective one in yours?

???
Mine starts and sounds like any other motor I've had for the last 40 years. It does not have this sound or any version like it.

Ive noticed the same type of noise with my 18 5.0 on start up it is very random and to me seems like something in trans mis binding when it happens.

My 17 3.5 eb has done it twice in about 16k mi. No negative effects. I imagined it to be related to when engine torques sideways during startup

Any of you seen my videos of my 2017 F150 clunk on engine startup?

and here is the link to the forums where others are talking about it.

https://www.f150forum.com/f118/singl...383628/index7/

2017 f150 Clunk can be heard 40 feet away on startup version 2 (I looped the last few seconds of video so you can hear the clunk being repeated. If you think about it, how loud must the clunk be to be heard 50 feet away??

2017 f150 Driveshaft clunking on engine start 3 level grade resting on parking brake

2017 F150 Driveshaft clunking during engine start 2 resting on parking brake

Note how the driveshaft rotates slowly in both directions after the engine has been started.

This was the first time I saw the drive shaft move while the engine was being started.

Add me to the club. Have been hearing this “clunk” since the beginning. Very intermittent. It was only doing it when I would start it. Just today it did it when t I shifted to park from reverse. I was actually able to record it but it’s not as clear as the other videos here. Already have a case with Ford over a lot of other issues. This truck has been a nightmare ever since I needed a new fuel injector at 4,500 miles. It’s a 2018 and currently has about 6,500 miles.
