Default 2018 Platinum 3.5 Ecoboost Startup Noise

Hello all,

Had a strange thing happen today. Running errands here and there, and probably had to start the truck 8 times today over a 5 hour period.

3 of those times, I heard a pop/thud sound (like someone smacked there hand on my hood). Look around expecting to see someone near my truck but nothing. But when it happend twice more i quickly realized it was from the engine startup. It happens as soon as it starts, and is just one noticeable pop/thud sound.

I just tried to duplicate it and record it, but it started up fine without that clank sound just now

Truck has 500 miles on it and trying to determine if this is just a random one off and i can ignore it, or if i need to take it to the dealer. I fear that when I'm there, it won't make the noise.

Tried searching forums but can't find anything other than a rattle (which is not my problem).

Anyone have any insights?

--edit--
** Side Note - One thing of note is that I had just filled up the tank with premium 92 (my first time filling the tank).
I can assume the dealer filled it with 87 regular when they gave it to me.

Could it be a spark knock or something to that affect because of the difference in fuel type?

I just assumed my engine would run better/cleaner if I stick with 92

Have you looked under the hood?

Sure did

Don't see anything out of the norm, other than the fact that its pristine clean =)

I'm a let the engine cool down and try again in the morning and this time I'll pop the hood and then have my girl start it and see if i can record anything

If your girl is busy making you a sandwich, you could always remote start it.

I actually tried to do a remote start but it wouldn't work, my suspicion is because the hood was popped open.

I didn't know that, but it makes sense. Anyone know if remote start is disabled if the hood is open?
