Ugh, the east bay. I know the 24 well. That commute blows. All said I like the 5.0. Im in the north bay and I get mix of wine tasting fools with moments of brisk movement and the v8 in sport mode fits it nicely.

2018 XL Sport 4x4
My 2018 XL 4x4, 581 miles... fired her up this morning and started to roll, heard and felt a grinding sound on the left front wheel. Twice, for 2 to 3 seconds, and then it was all gone. Sounds like the IWE. It was 54F this morning in Phoenix, so not so cold here. Drove the truck again at lunch and back home after work, no issues.
As a precaution, I bought (2) of these: YG360 valves.
silly to do so, with only 581 miles. But I know that taking it in to the dealership, it won't repeat...
other than this issue, love the truck.

I traded is a 2015 Ram Long Horn 1500 4x4 Ecodiesel with a 101350 Miles on the clock. It had 9 check engine lights in the 27 months I owned the truck. 8 were for major items that kept the truck at the dealer for more than a week.
My 2018 F150 Lrait Super Crew is my second Ford truck, I owned a 91 F150 Lariat. I have 4025 miles on the truck and had it for a month. I am impressed at the amount of room I have in the cabin, more than was in the Ram I owned. Coming from a diesel, the F150 is lighter in the front end and obviously, a hell of a lot more responsive. As said before the head lights could be better on a $51,000 truck. I can change that later on. Like the Lead Foot gray. First time I saw the color was on a Mustang. Overall, it’s a nice truck and I like how it rides.

How is the 2018 5.0 on city commutes? I drive very gently and it would probably never pass the 1,500 rpm mark. Are the slow driving shifts smooth (up or down)? The next vehicle I buy will also be my DD in Bay Area commute. As others have posted, a 20 minute test drive doesn't show you the real deal.
How do you get to test drive a truck without the salesman present? With them present it's hard to focus and try different things without feeling embarrassed or pressured. Maybe it is hit or miss. Years ago they used to hand us the keys, now it is a nanny that comes with us.

I agree with you on the test drives - too short and too distracted. It's especially hard to get a good feel for how the truck really behaves (especially shifting) when the salesman says "throw it in sport mode and take a 5 minute loop around the highway." It is hit or miss though - I recall a salesman from my mom's last car search who was willing to let her take a car out for the entire afternoon by herself so she could get a good feel for it.

My 18 did the "won't run when parked nose down with <1/4 tank of gas" thing again this morning. Remote started it, came out, put it into gear, and it died. This time I just let it drift down to the level street and tried starting it again. Died once more, then started and ran fine. Stopped for gas on way into work and all is well. 36 gal tank. I guess Ford couldn't design a pickup point that is always at a low spot. Sheesh.
