2018 Factory Bug Deflector Install Help
Recently bought a new, leftover 2018 FX4 XLT and wanted to install a Ford factory bug deflector. I consider myself skilled at these types of tasks - given they include some "readable" form of instructions. Received the part yesterday and I was blown away by the lack of detail (no written instructions or detailed descriptions) regarding install. The step by step instructions are nothing more than several pages of "international type" generalized pictures. I called Ford and that didn't provide any solution to the problem. I chose the factory part to ensure proper fit. The product looks great, but I'm not convinced the local dealer will be as meticulous as me when installing - given the truck is brand new. Suggestions? I did find one YouTube video that may provide enough guidance, but interested to hear any other suggestions. Thanks - new member - Doug

I did two now, the first one i just slapped it on there, it was off about 1/8th of an inch. No one noticed but me. The second one I did it a little different, get a piece of tape (i like the blue easy release myself) Put a piece on the hood and one on the center of the bug guard. Then put the guard on the hood and check your edges, once you get it centered mark the tape with a sharpie or a pen. Then peel off the backing tape and apply starting in the middle working your way out to the edges. Perfectly centered this time.

IN 2015, I bought the factory bug deflector for my new truck. Biggest POS I've ever dealt with. If it's the one with the "rubber cones" give it back.
Don't know if they've changed them up or not but you'd be way ahead to go a different direction other than the factory option.

This has 5 rubber cones, a slew of screws and washers, clear 3M tape, and clips. Even the guy on YouTube struggled a bit with the install (installing one very similar to mine). Thanks for the advice!

Appreciate the input, but looking for one that utilizes fastener holes on underside of hood that holds weather stripping in place. Thanks for your suggestion though.

The Ford factory one is basically the same as the AVS. In fact I believe that AVS makes them and slaps a Ford logo on. I tried installing one on my '15 and it was nothing but heartbreak. The deflector is too rigid, once you have it mounted and causes the molding rivets to pop out. It was a lease, so I was a bit less concerned with longevity, so I used some large diameter bolts to hold it in. I wouldn't do that if you own the truck. My new hood is bare and probably staying that way until someone figures out a better way to mount them.

Worked great on my 2019 F150 XLT
The attached instructions from a post above are the ones that came with my bug guard I got from a Ford dealer today. Was easy to install off those instructions and is solid and secure and looks great.
