Default 2018 F150 issue

I have a 2018 F150 3.5 TT. Took it in a month ago with a knock that sounds exactly like a push rod engine with a real bad lifter. Ford looked at it for a week and decided it was a cam phaser. Part is back ordered till September. I took it home. Runs OK just knocks. Changed the oil tonight and found a lot of metal in the pan. Aluminum not steel. A lot of metal as in if it was gold in a gold pan with that much in it you would be very happy. How do you think Ford will handle this? Are cam phaser parts steel or aluminum? I am wondering what the engines future is even if they fix whatever broke since it had a bunch of small metal pieces flowing through it.

Well, metals in the pan is certainly a bad sign. Good news is you’re totally covered. I’d have circus on my hands if this happened to me. Keep us posted on how it shakes out.

This is bull****!
You gotta wait until September to get parts? China tarrifs?
VCTs are steel so aluminum shards are coming from somewhere else.

Yea long back order on a part usually means there are a lot of trucks having the same issue. With a lot of metal in the oil is the best answer to replace the entire engine? I havent called the dealer yet with the metal in the oil info.

Of course, Ford may be displeased with you taking it home... "we told you you shouldn't drive it, you took the risk, you own it."

I personally would leave it there, open a case with Ford, and if it's going to take until September (which is beyond the 30 day mark, of course) tell them you want the truck bought back.

Actually they told me to come and get it while they were working the calls with Ford corp. and details around the fix. They are the largest Ford truck dealer in the country and they are very good about providing nice loaner trucks but you cant tow in my state on a dealer plate. I bought this truck loaded with about everything you can get on a Lariat in September 2018. Purpose was to tow the new boat I was buying and did by in April 2019. I know it is a weak whine on my part but I have a new boat I cant use because my truck is at the dealer for the whole summer. When it was just a knock it was kind of "whatever drives fine" but with metal in the oil the game has changed. At this point I would convince them to trade me even up or I might even throw in a grand or two but they dont have a truck that matches what I have. Mainly because I have the 6.5 foot box.

To you all,--is the only true fix for this a new engine? Back in the day, metal in the pan was a minimum of tear down the whole engine, clean, repair what broke.

I'm really curious what the "part" could be? I would think you need a new motor if it's full of metal.
