Default 2018 F150 floor shifter swap to 2018 Expedition rotary style

What I have🔼

What I want🔽

So Im wondering if this can be done. Both are 10 speed transmissions and from what I have found on Taska parts it looks like all I would need for the console is the upper console trim assembly package that comes with the cupholders and 2 storage trays and the surround(above pics)..And of coarse the rotary shifter and cable.. as far as wiring matching up, the rotary switch has the drive mode button, manual mode and + - buttons so so I would imagine that could be wired up fairly easy.

what Im not sure of is if the shifter cable from the expedition will work. A) is it long enough? and B) is the end that hooks to the transmission the same? C) Is it possible to make the electrical work? The manual mode on the rotary is a button so Im thinking that might kill this plan but i dont know exactly how it works down in my existing shifter itself like if manual is actually electronically activated and deactivated.

ironically when I look up a 2018 f150 10 sp. column shifter cable it has the same one thats used for this rotary shifter on the Expedition..

So any one done this yet? Doesnt appear to be a very expensive or time consuming upgrade and I would like not having this shifter in my way all the time..

That's really interesting. As you've figured out, the 2018 F150 is still a mechanical linkage, not shift-by-wire. I had previously ***-u-med that the rotary shifter was electronic. Surely they aren't driving the mechanical linkage with the **** directly? I could only guess they're using a servo motor to move the cable. Unless the Expedition's 10R80 trans is somehow different (and I would suspect it doesn't, since that was one of the design goals of the 10R80... commonality), they must be doing manual by also shifting the cable.

The drive mode and +/- buttons are no big deal. Look at @baxzilla 's writeup on his floor-to-column shifter for some clues. Also the Raptor steering wheel install thread. They are all simple common/return circuits... nothing fancy.

Get your hands on an Expedition service manual (or spend the $25 to get access for 3 days) and look at the wiring diagrams. Knowing what circuits are run to that shifter would give you a really good idea of what they're up to.

Looks pretty simple op. Get a wiring diagram for that and you column shifter and make it happen. Biggest thing is going to be if the expedition cup holder tray and all of that will snap into the f150 console. I did the swap to the super duty cup holder tray and there was some trimming involved .Besides that this looks very easy!

What's the difference between the two?

⬆️picture of the shift cable that would be on my truck now.. Definitely different but very similar..
I am gonna talk with a guy at work and see if he can get me the diagram from both vehicles..
Sure would be nice in my opinion if the swap would work..Id like to have a more open console but I'd rather have this than a column shifter..

I do believe the console itself was the same when I looked on Taska but Ill double check...
Be nice if the top bezel just snapped right in but i can do a little trimming without complaining

I was wondering about the servo to drive the cable myself and am thinking that the manual button in the center of the **** probably wont be a big deal if what your saying is correct..

Super interested in this as well. Had the dial in my 2017 Fusion and quickly came to love it.
