This is a common issue it seems. Does it only happen with tailgates that have the built-in step? It's been in the negatives here and we had freezing rain coating everything, but I've had no issues with my doors or tailgate. I don't have the step in mine.

My thoughts FWIW. My tailgate does not have the step, I came out after a snowy, icy, freezing rain evening. I found snow / ice caked on top of the tailgate rail and bed cover which I had to remove. It may have been a one time thing because it did free up after it warmed up and sunny later in the morning. I think the melt dripped onto the side pins and froze there preventing the latch from opening.
Regarding the doors. I have noticed lots of water / moisture come from the driver-rear door drains, more so than the other side or the driver door. I use the rear doors to let my dog jump in several times a day. The rear driver side froze twice on me after foul, freezing weather. The first time I had to let it sit in the sun for a few hours before it would catch. The second closing the door hard a few times freed it up. When I took it in I mentioned the moisture in the door to the service writer but it feel on deaf ears. My thought being to correct the weather seal at the window to prevent water intrusion. I ended up with the TSB on the lock mechanism, it was the easy way out for him.

Mine does have the step. I love the step, though, and will take the freezing if that's the trade off for having the step.
