My 18 EB has started making an awful sound in the morning when its cold the last few mornings. It does not do it at idle or in neutral. It rattles when accelerating and gets worse as the rpms go up. 75k on the OD. Is the cam phaser rattle at cold start-up while you are idling or when its under load? I can hear it in the vid on my phone but I cant tell if its there after uploading it on my computer speakers. I let off the gas it goes away, I put it in neutral while driving and rev and its not there. It only lasts for a min or so but it seems the colder it is the worse it is. It has only done it the last few mornings but it almost feels like I can feel it in the gas pedal but that could be in my hed. I saw a vid about the 4wd IWE check valve but the guy said it happens when the motor is warm idk if this could be the same thing can the IWE valve cause issues only when cold? It does it at the 1500-2k rpm mark TIA

 

I had the same exact noise with no codes or no engine lights and my truck ran great but I've had the rattle noise for over a year and I have been searching all over the threads thinking it was a number of things. Even took it to the Ford dealership and they said it was normal. I tried everything and nothing solved the rattle noise problem on light acceleration. I finally just concluded it was just a noisy high-pressure fuel pump. Then one day totally unrelated, an engine light came on and some codes showed a rich fuel condition so I took it into the Ford dealer and they updated my PCM software per TSB 22-2393 and to my very pleasant surprise it eliminated the noise TOTALLY!! That TSB shouldn't have anything to do with the noise. It should on have something to do with a rich or lean fuel condition. All I can think is that the rattle elimination must have have had something to do with them updating the powertrain control module software and subsequently resetting both the PCM and KAM. If I were you, I would try that because that TSB also made my truck run smoother than it already ran.
