2018 Adaptive cruise with stop&go... any good?
#21
Not lame at all. All you do it hit the resume button on the steering wheel. We have another car with stops and go and it works similarly. I think things get programmed again so you as the driver stay engaged.
It is nice in stop and go traffic,, and see the speedo creep at 1-2 mph, then back up.

1. If you’re changing lanes into a lane with a car that will be in front of you the car will brake on you depending on the safe distance you have set (you have 4-5 spacing settings you can choose). Here’s the crappy part, if you’re changing lanes and the truck brakes because the car in front of you is too close, you better hope there isn’t a car behind you because the auto brake feature will **** off the person behind you.
2. Same concept as number 1 but if someone cuts into your lane too close you’ll brake hard to keep your safe distance.
3. If you hit a patch of slow traffic it doesn’t brake early enough for my liking and vice versatility, when cars start to accelerate after being in a slow patch, and there isn’t a car in front of you, the truck wants to get up to your desired speed way too fast which is scary as **** if traffic immediately slows down again.

Normal braking with the flow of traffic no issues.
However, has anyone notice when using the adaptive cruise control that if a car in front of you is stopping, or a car changing lanes, that when it brakes, it has to brake harder because of the sudden slow down which is fine, but it makes a noise.
The noise it makes only occurs when its braking a little harder than normal. not sure if the noise is anything to worry about. Sounds like its coming from within the cabin, around the brake pedal area.

Probably the ABS pump cycling. A/T tires are not that grippy. I haven't tried ACC yet, as I haven't hit heavy traffic yet. But that's the only instance where I like ACC. Otherwise, I have cruise set to normal, like when a cop is in front of me or something. ACC slows me down if I don't switch to the left lane waaaay early before a slower vehicle. It annoys me. It also can detect an oncoming car when turning right, and slam on the brakes momentarily. It happened once, and don't want to experience that again. Or rather, my wife ire. Ha ha. But it scared the crap out of me too. Fortunately, didn't have a car behind or in front.

I have a 2015 XLT 302a package, and just out of curiosity, I popped the the plastic blank off, where the HUD would go. The wiring is actually in there for it. I'm thinking it's possible to do this mod on an XLT. I suspect I would probably need to upgrade to a lariat cluster however. I'm seeing used lariat clusters for about $700. That would tally it up to about 1200 in parts, plus programming labor. Tough to justify, but definitely tempting.

I might be in the minority, but I am not a fan. I don't like that it slows me down on the highway. I can see the traffic in front of me, you know. On long trips, it is a subtle slow-down, so you may end up going 5 under your desired speed without realizing it. I just don't like my vehicle to think for me so much. As for the collision prevention feature, I get too many false alarms on forest roads and at night with my brights on (when the headlights hit street signs). Has startled me near to death a few times. Of course, it would be useful in the small chance that a bizarre emergency happens, or if you have the bad habit of being a distracted driver. But after 40 years on the road, I have never had such an incident. Overall, I would not buy this feature again. Just too intrusive for me, and can also promote careless driving habits. I'll spend that money on a double panel moonroof next time!

Absolutely
I traded 2 vehicles for my 2018 to have this technology as it keeps looking out for me if I space out driving. We all get distrust times and it will stop. Yes in heavy traffic it is sometimes irriwhen simekne cuts in front of you so u just learn to adapt what to use it or not. I have had a problem with a wound on my right foot so it has been a blessing to be able to keep driving because the systems help me drive.
Regardjng lane keep assist. It is useful in a strong crosswind to keep your vehicle inside the lane markers. Since all systems are electronic they all communicate and steer effortlessly together.
Good luck with your decision.

I absolutely love it. My MRS drove the truck cross country and now wants a new car mostly due to this single feature. Agree with other on too large of gaps, too much delay on accel, and needs a longer stopped window before deactivating.
The single biggest gain is that it allows a reduced stress on the highway when in medium to heavy traffic. No more playing with accel and decal buttons to get through traffic without hitting the brake. Having an auto brake feature means you can actually look at the scenery you are driving through.
