Default 2018 5.0L vs 2017 3.5L Ecoboost vs 2018 2.7L Ecoboost vs 2017 Raptor

Looks like we now have a good comparison of a 2017 Platinum 4WD 3.5L Ecoboost Crew Cab against a 2018 Platinum 4WD 5.0L Crew Cab, even if the 5.0L has a performance retarding 3.31 axle next to the 3.5L Ecoboost's 3.55 axle.

Along with that, we truly see how the 2018 2.7L Lariat Ecoboost performs next to the more powerful engines with the same transmission and the 3.55 axle.

The 2017 Raptor with it's extra power and 4.10 axle only equaled the Platinum trucks, but the Raptor weighs considerably more.

All were 14.7 seconds in the quarter mile except the slower 2.7L which was 15.5 seconds. With the 5.0L the quickest to 100 mph at 16.0 seconds.

If the 5.0L would of had it's 3.73 axle instead of the doggy 3.31 axle, it would had likely beat all significantly.

91 mph trap speed is utterly disappointing for the Raptor IMO. Apparently those 4.10's aren't enough to compensate for the 35's and extra weight.

Very strong showing for the 5.0, yet disappointing numbers for the 2.7. Almost as if they maybe detuned the 2.7 a little bit for longevity maybe?

The much lighter 2015 2.7L 4WD Super Cab was 6.5secs 0 - 60 and 15.1sec 1/4 mile so I wouldn't say detuned. The 2018 is heavier and more of an apples to apples comparison in showing that it's simply slower than the more powerful motors.

Of course not, they have proven what many have been saying for a long time. They just go against the supposed rumor that the Ecoboost engines were the performance kings. Especially on the 2.7L, you can't go quicker with a smaller, weaker engine, in a truck that weighs the same as a 5.0L or 3.5L Ecoboost.

...I've done a 14.4 1/4 mile in my 2017 3.5 EcoBoost at a mile high in elevation.

Replicated it three times.

What do you have 4WD, Crew Cab, tune, exhaust, 93 octane. Motor Trend usually does several tests in each direction so wind doesn't help out, then averages the results.

I have a bone stock 2017 STX Crew Cab 4x4 3.5L Eco Boost 20" wheels and 3.55 gears i also ran a 14.45@95 mph!!With a slower 60ft time by a tenth and a half then my bone stock 2015 Super Cab 4x4 2.7L Eco Boost 20"wheels and 3.55 gears had that ran a 14.53@92.55 mph.FWIW both trucks i always ran 87 octane fuel in them never tried 93 octane!!

Those are heavy top of the line platinum models, not lighter lower model trucks.
