2018 5.0L vs 2017 3.5L Ecoboost vs 2018 2.7L Ecoboost vs 2018 Raptor

Does it really matter? They are all quick... buy and drive what you like. I have a 3.5EB, I don't care if you do or don't like it, I like how it drives for my driving style

1/4 mile = Yes for comparison evaluation of power and No for real world driving.
Nice to compare the Ford 5.0L drivetrain to a Chevy or Dodge V8 and against the Ecoboost, but test drives are still needed.
When you tow or need your truck to perform, you want the most performance for your buck. The test of engine braking was very nice in warning about the 2.7L Ecoboost deficiency here, as it could be a big deal driving in the mountains with a large trailer.

An electric car would smoke an eco boost too. Electric motors produce instant power/torque. Ford is the only one betting that the v-8 will go away. The other manufacturers not so much. Ford has made their bed and will have to sleep in it. If this eco boost stuff goes south. Ford has a hard enough time designing door locks that work in the winter or dashes that won't warp. I'm putting my money against Ford on this one.

That was conveniently left out.
Typical stupid, useless response.
FWIW the OP starts a thread like this just to stir things up. A die hard V8 guy that accept there could be something just as good, don't even talk about better.
Buy, enjoy the motor that works best for you as they are all very good and be grateful you have the choices Ford offers.

I think the bigger takeaway is that the 5.0 was competitive, and even faster in many areas, while using the 3.31 axle many claim to be atrociously slow.
These results aren’t all that surprising. The 3.5EB did well at low speed and gave up a lot of ground to the 5.0 once that coyote started revving. This trend is exactly what anyone would reasonably expect to happen. It’s a reflection of the powerband and where each motor shines.

^^ Someone who gets it. Just compare dyno results and it is quite easy to see where the rear gearing between the EB and the 5.0 will make or break it.. I really believe that the 4.10 gears in the Raptor is where it lost its speed. I think the 4.10 are a holdover from the V8 days. It ran out of wind.
A more closer comparison between the 3.5 and the 5.0 would be to have 3.55 in the EB and 3.73 in the 5.0. This combination would put both engines on equal footing by keeping the engine in their respective power bands at equal speeds.
The EB produces top power between 2000 and 5500 RPM, the 5.0 between 3500 and 6500 RPM. With the 3.31 gears in the 5.0, it will have a lower 0-60, but will walk past the 3.5 every time once it gets in it's peak range. The EB will be past it's peak at that point. I do believe that is what happened with the Raptor.
Put 3.15 on the EB(not Raptor, tires are too big) and 0-60 might not be impressive, but once it gets into the pulling gears it will really get moving. Whether or not it will be faster in the 1/4, don't know, have never raced it, but it will have a higher top end.
I do know this for a fact, from 60 the 2014 EB I had with 3.15 gears was much faster than my current 16 with 3.55 gears. It would get moving quicker and be moving faster after passing than the 16 does. From a dead stop though, the 16 is quicker off the line.
I do wonder how the new 10 Speed trans impacts rear end gearing now with the computerized variable ratios vs the 6 speed with fixed ratios. One would think that it wouldn't matter now, but not seeing what the actual RPM's vs MPH and which gears they were in makes it a guessing game.

Reread 90% of these threads. The V8 guys schtick is really nothing short of obnoxious.
