So, is this repair order for the "CHIRP" or the "DECEL RATTLE?
Update 2: Good news & Bad news (copied from build thread)
I will try and word this as best as I can.
When I dropped the truck off 2 weeks ago I had a list of issues I wanted to be addressed. Recalls, Sound when letting off gas (TSB 18-2354), Dash installed incorrectly, Chirping sound at idle, and my Panoramic roof rattling.
The recalls were done, the dash was fixed and my Pano roof was fixed. They had to order parts for the truck for the rattle and noted that the engine *chirping* was attributed to the problem causing the decel rattle.
Fast forward two weeks, my dealership jumped through hoops and went right down the rabbit hole to fix the engine chirp.
Let me say that when I dropped off the truck 2 weeks ago I only mentioned it, to mention it. That was last on my list of things I needed done. My priority was the decel rattle.
After driving to the dealership to pick up the truck, drove out of the lot and heard the rattle. On the plus side the engine chirp is 100% gone (another thing I didn’t think was possible). Drove the truck back to the dealership and took the tech out for a ride to show him exactly what I needed. He acknowledged the sound. We went back in and he ordered parts for the rattle, which he said he has encountered before and can fix.
So so that’s where I am at. Truck is back at the shop for another night, but one more thing has been checked off the list.
list of work completed and parts needed to end the dreaded “engine chirp on 18 5.0

You must have missed my first post earlier on in the thread. Long story short, the part list is what got rid of my engine chirping at idle. My truck still has the decel rattle, unfortunately.

Is it just mine or are all these 5.0’s just noisy. I’m not talking about the decell rattle but it sounds like the cam phasers operating back and forth when rpm climbs and then you let off the throttle. Just a noisy engine.

Not entirely sure if they share the same parts or root cause
these threads maybe should be combibed.
most people have been saying it develops after a few thousand miles.
poll indicates about half F150’s have the rattle
Lots if concern, no failures. A few people found high iron in oil.

Got the TSB done tonight....the truck was still warm when i picked it up so for now i don't hear the rattle any more when the engine is hot...will have to wait till the morning to see how it is cold...i did get a chance to drive another 18 5.0 during my visit.. this truck had 2200 miles on it and didn't make a sound cold...i also spoke to the service rep about what the next move was if this TSB doesn't fix the problem,,,he said ford is saying replacing chins and phaser as the next option...he said they have only had to do this to 2 trucks to date...he also said they have had great results with just doing the reflash..i will see in the morning...

It still rattles...not sure what my next move will be..not really feeling someone tearing the engine apart..... Has any one had luck with the phasers and chains replaced?

I've been following everything and pretty sure there is no fix yet. I'm sure Ford is working on it but if it was just change a part here and there, they would be doing it. It's looking more and more like a design flaw.

At this point i am going to just drive it... the truck runs great other then the noise... im not willing to let them rip my motor apart at this point... hopefully someone on here has better luck and can find a fix..

I still think the engine rattle is being caused by the transmission. I believe it may have something to do with the trans holding torque on the engine on deceleration.
I could be wrong of course but thats my theory.
When I take truck out in morning...on a short warm up time if I can feel it go into gear when I put it in R to back out, I know it will rattle.
If I let it warm up longer say 10 minutes when I put it into R and I don't feel it go into gear, I know it won't rattle.
