I suspect that the only way that FORD will repair this "rattle" issue is if;
a. enough owners keep returning their vehicles in every few days to correct it.
b. Ford recognizes that the rattle will certainly cause damage to "other" components before end of warranty.

I have 12000miles now on my March 2018 built F150 5.0 liter and its been reprogrammed three times

I just wanted to ask you guys especially with the 5.0 engine if you have heard a similar sound. Also, I have a 36 gallon tank and my tank doesnt seem to let me fill all the way full for some odd reason. It stops at 3/4ths full. Techs at ford said there isnt a leak, sensors are fine and no codes are getting pulled. But yeah. Still love my truck tho. Lol
I’ve brought my truck in several times and was told it was normal operation. They let me drive another one on the lot with the same power train and it did the same thing. It’s far worse when cold. The first dealer said it had to do with the high pressure injectors but to me it sounds like a chain rubbing on metal when I let off the gas. Interestingly enough I was walking down the road not even paying attention and I heard that noise so I looked up and sure enough it was a 2018 f150. I’m very unhappy with this 10 speed transmission. To pay 55k and have these issues is ridiculous!

Mine does this still as well. Havent mentioned to the dealer yet, but will. I have been able to determine that it doesnt stop when the engine warms up to temp, but rather only when the trans gets up to operating temp on the guage. annoying for sure.

I’ve been thinking about what could be causing these issues for everyone on this forum. I suspect that everyone feels something is wrong with the drivetrain but no one can pinpoint it. My hunch is that it might have to do with the rear end type and gears. I’m wondering how many people on this forum have the 8.8 rear vs the 9.75 rear. I for one have the 8.8 and I think it may be causing some issues. I think there might be a common denominator with all these trucks. WHICH REAR END And GEAR RATIO DO YOU ALL HAVE? Ie 8.8 with 3.31

3.55 for mine.. the noise is Absolutely, undoubtedly,coming from under the hood, and not the rear.. just google the youtube video showing it ... additionally, A PCM "re-boot" cures the problem temporarily, the latest PCM software upgrade is much better than the last.. my truck hasnt returned to near as bad condition as it would have by now with the previous program..... but the rattle and some shifting issues has returned to some extent. ... a new issue has cropped up for me and thats the loud "snap" of metal that you hear on a cold start up as the starter disengages.

I was so happy with my truck for the first 10,000km/6000miles... now Im wishing that I would have remained with my previous brand

I too have a loud clunk/metallic banging sound when starting the truck, I'd say 50% of the time now that I'm over 7000 miles.

I also noticed that if you put the truck in neutral while rolling at 20 mph and give it some gas, there will be a clunk sound and the truck feels like it wants to lurch forward. Not sure what all that is about but it is fairly concerning.

8.8 with 3.31 under mine. The clunk is the driveshaft spinning backwards for a short second after startup. Don't ask me why it does that, it just does. There's another long "clunk" thread on this forum with some videos of what's happening. It's normal operation from what I gather. Doesn't seem very normal to me though...

Any info on the transmission program update?

I bought my 2018 F150 302A XLT SCAB FX4/Sport with 5.0L V8 in March 2018. I had to have the power lumbar replaced in the driver seat and I had stiff shifting and a lag when punching the gas pedal. The stiff shifting resolved itself by around 4000 miles and I added an S&B cold air intake to resolve the slow response to pressing the gas pedal. I'm a happy camper.

I've had that happen to me twice in 7,100 miles. Both times were in the same parking space at the supermarket.
I was conscious of it through here when I first heard it around a couple thousand miles. When it happened again, not too long ago maybe 6,500 miles, I was in that parking space again
It may be a placebo effect, but that spot has a weird down slope to the right. So my left front is higher than my right rear. Maybe it possibly is related to strain on the powertrain when it's under pressure from an uphill parking scenario.. who knows.
Maybe someone can take note of how they're parked when it happens again.
