To my knowledge, there have not been any failures associated with any of these noises.
I will keep driving and enjoying.

Per your signature you have a 15, has that changed? 18+ are the ones with consumption concerns.
Has not changed, still a 15.

I love my '19 5.0. The oil consumption has completely stopped and it runs like a champ. I have no doubt the early 2018's and some 2019's had some issues but mine only exhibited the oil consumption and after 5000 miles and the TSB 2365 it is perfect (I do believe these motors need to be revved up some after the initial 1200-1400 mile suggested break in). These 5.0s like to rev so getting on it helps break it in. Mine is a Oct 2019 build and it doesn't rattle or make a bunch of weird noises and it's only gotten better with miles. I would buy another one if I had to do it over again for sure. Only thing worth noting is I exclusively run top tier 93 octane as I believe the 2018+ motors run much better with 93 than 87.

Way better on 93 even on stock tune, hell dyno even shows a 20hp difference between it and 87 stock. 87 made my 5.0 feel lazy, runs so much better, smoother, also no hiccups like pinging I got even on highways at elevation or even getting on it moderately to pass at sea level FL. I don't know how anyone could drive this truck on 87 at our compression ratio for 18+ blocks, it holds back the engine like it's gimped. Towing was a noticable difference as well. I only use Kirkland or other too tier is travelling and not near Costco (Costco 93 is stupid cheap too).

I have around 35,000 miles on my 2018 5.0 f150 and would get the same truck again if faced to buy again knowing what I know today.

Its been a great truck,,,, in fact it’s the best truck I’ve ever owned and I’ve had two Dodge’s, a Chevy and my last truck before this one was a Toyota.

I do think 3:73 gears should be standard with the 5.0 and truthfully I would have chosen 4:10s if that was an option though I’m satisfied with the 3:73s.

My .02

Mine was using a quart every 2500 miles (1 quart mid oil change at 5K), I was driving 1500 miles a week then. I have slowed to about 400-500 miles a week and it now uses a quart every 2000 miles. A little more but not terrible. I haven't done the TSB yet, I printed it out but haven't made the time to take it in.. I just buy an extra quart when I get two of the 5 quart jugs to have the extra quart.

I just live with it. It rattles on decel, it pings and knocks at low RPM on 87 Octane fuel too. I run 93 all the time now, the decel rattle doesn't bother me too bad now that I know its not really an "issue". I have found that if I really stand on it at least once a day and run the RPM's up close to redline it makes it a lot happier. Hard to do without getting in trouble with the Po Po though

When I was breaking mine in, I manually shifted, going to redline with WOT, and then using compression to brake.

Rob,

I'm in exact same situation. Just bought mine with 40,000 miles on it. It has the deceleration rattle on it like many others (only when cold). It also made an interesting noise/rattle when slightly accelerating around 50 mph up a hill one time. No idea about oil consumption because I just bought it, still holding steady after a month.

Even with those noises, I love the truck, so I'm hoping as you are that we'll be ok long term. I have 20,000 more miles left on the power-train warranty so I feel a little at ease with the situation. After that, I'll drive it hard, hope for the best, and repair anything that needs repaired. Will keep updating on this forum with any changes/updates with my engine/transmission symptoms as time progresses.

Ryan

I've got a 2018, and it was a fairly early (09/17) build, but has not used any oil since new. Yes, it has the decel rattle, ticks a bit a times, has the weird tranny whine at low speeds shifting from 1st to 2nd, pretty much all the odd noises these are known for, but runs great at 37,000 miles and not quite 2 yrs on the road (purchased 07/18). I think the oil usage issue is hit or miss with these, and seems to be if they did the cylinder coating properly on the earlier production units. Hopefully this has been worked out on current production. The other odd noises seem to be just that, noises that do not seem to affect performance or durability (at least as far as we can tell with these being this new). I've driven the 3.5 turbo and 3.3 normally aspirated, and if I had to do it again, I would still buy a 5.0.
