Default 2018+ 5.0 engine longevity

Hi all,

Just bought a 2018 5.0L with ~44,000 kms on it. While I like the truck overall, it does have the deceleration rattle, which is making me a bit nervous about longevity. I've completed the TSB 18-2354 but unsurprisingly it did not work. Wondering if there are any examples of high mileage 3rd gen coyotes out there, and if you have had any problems related to this or other engine durability issues? My last truck was a 2016 5.0, which I sold with over 200,000 kms on it, so I hope I have not upgraded to a less reliable option. I put a lot of miles on my truck and hope to have this thing last me well over 200k.

Thanks in advance,
Rob

60k miles (approx 96k km) on mine, other than it uses some oil it runs perfect..

I just traded a 2015 with 63,000 miles. Had the 5.0 , ran great 0 issues with mine. My new truck I got the 5.0 , I see a video a few years ago a camera man walking through a service dept in Mississippi. A Big dealership ( to me anyway) at least 10 technicians working. One by one the camera man asked 'if you could own a truck with your favorite engine which would it be ?''. Eight out of ten chose the 5.0 V8. The reason each gave. #1 Dependability. #2 Ease to work on.

How much oil does your engine use? I had the oil consumption TSB done, but mine still consumes oil. Went from full to the half way mark on the dipstick in 4,000 miles

To be fair that video was before the 2018+ 5.0 issues became so prevalent.

Yeah, I never had any issues with my 2016 5.0, so just hoping this holds true with the 3rd gen one

Does yours not have the rattle or have you just learned to live with it?

With the new dipstick, that's a quart in 4000 miles, not that bad IMHO.

My 5.0 has almost 93K miles, and the oil level is in the middle of the hash marks after 5K miles, the same level when the oil is changed. I change it every 5K miles.

My 18 5.0 is noisy. The VCT rattles cold off throttle, the DI pump is loud and I have hints of the "signature" coyote BBQ tick. If I run 87, I will get some light knock under load at low RPMs.
To my knowledge, there have not been any failures associated with any of these noises.
I will keep driving and enjoying.

Per your signature you have a 15, has that changed? 18+ are the ones with consumption concerns.
