Default 2018 2.7 MPG/Performamce

I searched for a 2018 2.7 thread regarding how it performs paired to the 10 speed and actual MPG numbers but didn't see much on here. I'd imagine it's pretty impressive; any reviews/info would be appreciated.

My truck was in for warranty work so the dealership pulled a 2018 supercab 2wd XLT off the lot for me to drive while they had my truck.

I was very impressed. Keep in mind, I was the first driver of the truck, so it only had 10-15 miles on it when they gave me the keys. I had it for 1 week.

I live in the suburbs around Dallas, so it's pretty congested with lots of stoplights.

City driving, I got over 20 mpg...I think it probably averaged 21-ish mpg for city driving.

Normal highway mpg seemed to be closer to 23. On the return trip to the dealership (60 miles away) I was able to get a final readout of just over 30 mpg (I had reset it before heading to the dealership) for those 60 miles....note....I was hypermiling it, not driving normal. I just wanted to see what it 'could' do. For comparison, my 3.5EB only gets to 22 mpg if I'm hypermiling.

I hope that helps. It's a nice motor. Even though I chose the larger ecoboost, I wouldn't hesitate to pick the 2.7EB now that I lived with one for week. It is surprisingly peppy and can get great mpg when driving conservatively.

Best way to find this out is to check Fuelly instead of asking in a forum. You'll get way more data.

I think that the new 2.7 with the 10 speed is a no brainer choice IF you dont need to tow over 7k lbs (get the 3.5) or IF or don't want the get the 5.0 and supercharge it.

The new 2.7 setup is a beast, and is a complete game changer in the world of mid sized trucks getting really good fuel mileage (if you can stay out of the throttle/boost), and dont mind the sound of a small V6.

Legitimately the only drawback I've found with my 2.7. If you like quiet trucks the OEM exhaust is silent, but almost any aftermarket exhaust is going to sound precisely like a small turbo V6.

Small price to pay for instant power/torque and great MPG in a full size truck

^THIS. I love the quiet part of it. It's nice especially after a long day with the radio low and just cruising in peace. I'm only in my 30's and I find the loud cars trucks and motorcycles to be very obnoxious, especially when done on purpose, and especially when it's some douche in your neighborhood. At LEAST save the man parade engine roaring for the main roads and don't do it in your own hood. We know where you live
P.S. Loud does not equal fast, or impressive lol
