Default 2017 XLT Cracked Windshield

Great, had my truck a year and now have a cracked windshield!!! Happened today on my way to work, the strange thing is there were no cars in front of me and I never heard any rocks hit my truck. All I heard was the glass cracking it started from the bottom underneath the mold on the drivers side came straight up then curved over to the passenger side!!!!! Am pretty sure dealership ain't going to help, but has anyone ever tried to get assistance from there dealership on this? I hate breaking the ford original gasket. But no way am driving my good looking truck around with a big **** crack across the windshield either. I would want to replace with original that has the Ford above the rear view mirror like it is now. I guess it would be easier to accept if I saw the rock and heard the loud pop and it cracked. But I mean nothing hit it and it just cracked!!!! Hard to keep anything nice now days, sorry for the rant just really pisses me off am sure this will be a $300 to $500 dollar repair. Am located in Houston if anyone has any hook ups or deals on a windshield they would be willing to share. Thanks

Most dealers farm this repair out and mark it up, so do it on your own.

If you run the point of a pen down the length of the crack, 99 times out of 100, you'll find a divot where some road debris hit the windshield sometime
in the past. Call your insurance company and get the glass replaced.

Windshield replacement is covered under comprehensive coverage on your insurance. Coincidentally, comprehensive coverage is the cheaper of the two. If you lower your comprehensive deductible to $100-250, it will likely only raise your premiums a few dollars per month, but allows for cheap repairs not caused by accidents, including glass.

That's how I have my policy configured. My comprehensive deductible is $100 and it was $8/mo more than $500 deductible. Obviously, your results will vary. Worth looking into.

Glass replacement ain't a big deal. I've had a few replaced and never had any leaks or issues. Not sure if Safelite is available where you are, but I'd avoid them like the plague if they are. Find a good local shop that has really good reviews and you shouldn't have any issues.

Car companies have cheaped out and switched to soft glass to save money.

This is what I think too. I send requests to windshield replacement specialists, asking for a quote for "higher quality" glass, and get nil answer. My 2016 has many cracks. In Alberta, Cdn, the road maintenance crews spread pee gravel for traction on the highway and range roads instead of salt. Good on the vehicles (reduces corrosion) but bad for windscreens and paint chips... Good thing is that the cops don't bother you much, its so common around here to have a cracked windshield....

Frustrating I know....

Fairly documented on this site. I've replaced mine twice and have a chip in the latest. I get OEM replacements. 1 free per year with Geico.

Yeah that sucks on a new truck. I had one crack on a 13 f150 the 2nd day i owned it by a window tint shop putting a eyebrow on it. If it had not been a girl doing the install i probley would have lost it. Felt sorry for her.

Posted often. Comprehensive claim, non-chargeable. Some states have a separate glass deductible, some has zero. Call your insurance company and ask if you don't know what your policy covers.

Since coverage varies by company and by state, can't make general statements.
