2017 F150 STX 2.7 Ecoboost review.

Bought my truck back in July. I traded in a 2000 F250 V10 Super Duty I’d owned since new. I was leary of the little motor..... I had a 6.8! A 2.7 with more HP and only 50lbs less torque??? With the 3.73 rear end it had more nut out of the hole than my SD with that big V10 and 4.30 rear end! So far I LOVE THIS TRUCK!! I have a 50 mile one way commute to work and most of that is done in a ‘15 Focus hatch at 40 mpg. The old SD got 12! I’m now running the new girl twice a week and pulling 22 mpg (actual calculated ) consistently. The ride is excellent! The factory mirrors sucked.... too damn small ... I drive a tractor trailer for a living.... upgraded to eBay trailer tow factory clones. The primary purpose of a truck for me is pulling a snowmobile trailer in the winter so that was a really nice upgrade. While I’m rated at 8100 towing capacity and see no problem dragging 1800 lbs of sleds and trailer, I am curious to see how she’ll do on fuel. Knocked the old V10 down to the 9-10 range. 15-16... I’ll be happy! |

Old girl's last morning in the driveway. |
Nice you got the same truck as me, all you need to do is disable the Stall N Start, unless you like that feature?

Hate that, hit the off button almost every time I start it and get annoyed when I forget! I’m guessing you can kill it via forscan? Just learning about it as I’m looking to add a back up cam ( I have sync 3)

The 2.7l never ceases to amaze people. I have the SuperCrew with 3.73’s. Wouldn’t have it any other way. Pulls my Pioneer 180 Islander flawlessly and has plenty of get up an go.
Glad to hear you are enjoying yours. That engine really is a cool show of mechanical engineering. |

Nice!
Do you have a link to the mirrors? Also are they heated? my factories were heated and had the puddle lamps and side spots. These aren’t the exact but close. 22 pin connector is key, lower versions have 8 pin. There are 8 pin versions out there but seem less common. The 8 pin connector is square,22 pin rectangular. There are a ton of them on eBay. |

I fixed mine today with an inch of 18 gauge bell wire, you don't need forscan at all.

Unless you have a tall enclosed trailer (bad aero) you'll do better than that. I pull a tandem flatbed with my Kubota BX & gear, usually between 5 & 6K, pending the gear I'm hauling, and I get 15-16 with that, in a mix of road types.

Ive got the identical truck as the OP and so far have only towed my loaded three rail trailer. With all three dirt bikes loaded it weighs roughly 1,000 lbs is all but it still has a significant effect on my mileage. How much so is tough to gauge as I’m generally towing in the mountains but it seems to drop my efficiency by about 3-4mpg and into the upper teens.
I attribute some of the loss to the truck going into “trailer mode” with the shifting patterns. I hauled 1,000 lbs in the bed of the truck and it had little effect on my mileage but absolutely had oncoming traffic flashing me. Lol. |
