Default 2017 F150 Front Obstacle Detection Not Working

I just picked up my new 2017 F150 Platinum, and I noticed that when parking, the front obstacle detection system does not work. If I put the truck in reverse, it detects anything close to the truck, but when driving forward, I can get within an inch of an obstacle such as a garage door, and no beeps or visual notifications. I can obviously use the 360 degree cameras to check how close I am to something in front, but I thought the sensors would alert me to proximity???

My wife has a 2017 Escape which provides visual and audible alerts to any obsticles close on any side of the vehicle (front, sides and rear). I was expecting the F150 to work the same way.

Am I wrong to assume this? Does it work for anybody else? Is this normal, or is it an issue with the truck?

Please correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think any trims levels in the F-150 come with front parking sensors

+1
I don't believe any of the trucks come with front parking sensors. I know my loaded Lariat didn't and it was definitely not an option.

EDIT: Page 220 in the 2017 F150 manual references "obstacle distance indicator" but doesn't provide much information beyond the basics of how it works. After some searching I could only find the Explorer and Escape as possibly having this system.

Mine doesn't have it. At least, as far as I know.

The system is also called "airbags" and they activate when you're WAY too close to something!!! You have to get closer than 1". More like 12" into something. Then the detection system activates...

You don't have it in the front so your description of the trucks behavior sounds like it's working perfectly.

Does the truck have self parking? I don't even think the self parking has front sensors, only the Fusion had them. I had 2 Flex and an MKT with self parking and none of those had forward sensors either.

Mine has the 360 cameras, and there are zones all around on the screen, but none of them other than the rear will light up or alarm.

You can install the Rostra front parking system if needed. It's less than $100 last time I looked.

Yes. This is why I thought it would have the front sensors. I just looked and yeah, there are only sensors on the sides and the back. Just seems odd.

Cameras will have to do instead.

Thanks for the responses guys!
