Also multiple posts about locksmiths with PATS programming capability.
Yes, that’s why I said (correctly). They’re most likely cloning. I don’t understand the fuss about just taking it to the dealer and being done with it.

I bought a 2016 used and it had one key. I went back to the Ford dealer and he had a locksmith guy in the parking lot making extra keys for the used cars. The locksmith made me a second key, cut a second key and hooked my truck up to his ODBII scanner and copied my first key to program the second. Locksmith cut the key inside the fob in his van.

So, I'm guessing you can drive to a locksmith that has the scanner he can hook to your truck and the locksmith can do it.

1.) people don't like dealers
2.) people want to TRY and save money
3.) people want to Learn how to do something
4.) people don't want to pay dealer prices

Just a guess on my part, sure others have many more reasons.

Cloning the key (which is what sounds like you had done) doesn't create 2 masters, it creates 2 copies of 1 master. This does not give you the ability to do the 2-key program that 2 master keys does.

That's exactly what I'm getting at.

If the OP wants to do it the cheap way, then so be it. I'm trying to steer them, and any anyone else reading, the right way. It's all good. Your truck.

I bought a used 2016 Limited with one fob/key. I wanted a used 2016 Limited with two fobs/keys. My dealer fished around in a drawer, pulled out a second used truck fob/key, walked me outside to the locksmith and 10 minutes later I had a used 2016 Limited with two fobs/keys. No additional cost. I think I'm ok.

So what am I missing out on? The ability to make myself 8 more keys? The ability to make a key restricted in "myKey" I won't be using that feature.

My comment was to say a locksmith can provide a car owner with one key a second key.

This is my question as well, is the MyKey feature the only reason to care about multiple masters vs clones of one master?

If you have memory seats, mirrors, etc. key fob affects that too. A cloned fob looks like the master i.e. same driver. You can use the buttons on the seat to change memory of course, but if it was in the non-fob memory slot you'll have to wait for it to reposition first, then press the seat button to put it back.

If you don't care about MyKey or different drivers automatically getting the correct memory settings than knock yourself out, but the right way to add a key if you don't have two factory fobs is to go through a Ford dealer since I believe they are the only ones who can program a truly new fob.
