Well, I had read some of this thread before purchasing my '17 XLT last June and took a chance anyway. The truck has been flawless up until about a week ago. I had been driving in some mountain roads and thought I may as well turn on the 4wd to keep things moving and make sure it works. I received a "Check 4x4" error on the dash and the little orange wrench at the bottom. I checked with the dealer on that Monday and they were not able to get it in to check it out until the following Tuesday. I had a camping trip planned for the weekend and continued to drive the truck as it appeared normal pulling my trailer after the warning light and through the week.
Everything was fine getting my camp trailer pulled out to the site ~90miles. That night we went for a drive and the transmission shifted down to 1st gear on me while driving ~30mph. I was not sure what happened so I stopped and tried driving on. The transmission would not shift up out of 1st and I noticed all of the numbers indicating gears on the dash were gone except for the 1. I put the truck into park and back into drive and all appeared normal. As I began to drive along again I noticed the numbers on the shift indicator began to disappear from the top down. Once it hit the gear I was in the transmission began to shift down until it hit 1st gear and stayed there. I stopped when through the cycle of park-drive again and things were normal until I got to my destination. When returning to the truck after ~1hr The truck started and drove off normally. Then after ~10min it started the same thing shifting to 1st. I tried Tow/Haul and Sport modes with no difference. Shifting to manual allowed me to shift up but the gear would not hold, again shifting down to 1st. I found I could constantly press the "+" button and somewhat hold a gear enough to get back to camp. We finish out our trip as we had plans Saturday and started the process of setting up roadside assistance to tow everything back.
~$500 later and my truck was at the dealer Sunday evening. I get a call from the dealer asking why they have my truck even though I had talked with a service adviser Saturday and Sunday as well as leaving a detailed message on the Service voice mail. Monday afternoon I received a call from the dealer indicating that the issue would take some time to locate but was thought to be electrical and they had a loaner car for me. Tuesday update from the dealer was that a wiring harness for the transmission would need to be replaced as the tech was getting some "funny signals" and the harness could be available as early as today. They also indicated that the transmission would need to be dropped to replace the harness. I am hoping this turns out to be a relatively simple and positive fix as it doesn't appear to be a problem with the transmission itself but more of how it is being controlled, or not.

My dealer wants to replace the valve body in my 10-speed transmission on my 2017. The shifts are pretty harsh from one to three and it has the latest transmission software update available. Is this going to accomplish anything by replacing the valve body? Is there a newer valve body design that is out?

My build date was one of the first ones, built Sep 2017, I ordered it in July. I have talked to a couple of local owners with these trucks and all have said the same thing about their trannies, smooth as silk.

10 speed valve body replacement
I got my f150 Dec 2016 within 500 miles the tranny was having serious issues. They replaced the valve body and a few other parts. The dealer rep said they basically replaced most of the internals. It helped but a just over 10k the issues are here again.

What issues exactly? My June/2018 build EB is generally fine, but if you accelerate slowly or very slowly in 1st gear, the up-shift to 2nd is quite abrupt in either manual or auto. If you get a bit on the gas, it's fine in both modes. Refined is not a word that describes this tranny at all. Ha ha. Anyway, in manual mode, it's pretty abrupt in some other gear changes. Second is bad either going up or down. In fact, in auto mode, the tranny downshifts from 3 tro 1 all the time. I guess it knows it's bad. Ha ha. But all of that crap is 'normal', correct? Or am I having 'issues'? Thx.

Before they replaced the valve body etc it was jumping every time it was put into drive from park. Reverse was just as bad .Shifting was very rough in most scenarios but really bad on the highway.
After the work the part to drive thing is gone but it still shifts pretty hard in lower gears sometimes. This is mostly on downshifting, I think it is just not a very refined product. I have never had one day that it shifts as smooth as the older 6 speeds. My wie has an 8 speed Volvo that is smooth as silk in comparison. So I guess this is normal.
