Default 2017 Cam Phasers Still Under Warranty

Just had the cam phasers replaced on my 2017 3.5L Ecoboost. Friend who is a master tech for Ford pulled up my VIN which showed the part was still covered under the “emissions warranty”. Local dealership said it would be under powertrain warranty before checking but lo and behold the next day they were doing the repair as a warranty job. 61k miles. PSA announcement to anyone in the same boat as me, definitely worth checking with the dealership!

If you can tell me. What code did this fall under or what does it show on your paperwork, I guess is what I’m asking that says the phasers fall under emissions. I’m in the same boat as you 2017 3.5 Ecoboost and this would be the third set if I can get them replaced under warranty. Truck has 76,332 and it’s started the morning rattle again. I love the truck but this phaser issue is getting old. Nowadays instead of research and development being done before you buy something, I guess it’s done when the purchase is done made. The customer gets to be the guinea pig. I really don’t care how old the truck is this cam phaser issue has been just that an ongoing issue that hasn’t been resolved as of yet. I can’t stomach the ideal of having to pay for faulty engineering.

I was told 8 year, 80,000 miles was the emissions warranty coverage under which the cam phasers are covered. Theoretically you should be covered. Everywhere one my paperwork says “warranty” but nothing about the specific warranty. The TSB is 23-2143. I have a photo from the master tech showing the cam sprocket part is covered under “emission coverage” but nothing on the work order paperwork shows that.

CBASS2288 - I was also told it was not covered. I have an F-150 (2019) with 77,400 miles. I would welcome anything you might be able to share (photo etc.) regarding this being covered under the emissions warranty. Sincerely appreciate your help - drclaborn@comcast.net

let me just ask...did you experience cam phaser problems and that's what prompted you to take to dealership or did you just go to dealership and say hey there's a TSB for my year cam phasers i want them changed?

i'm just trying to figure out if you have to have the cam phaser problem first or can you just go to dealership with the TSB and request the updated cam phasers???

appreciate any info...thanks again for the e-mail
