No upgrades.. Maybe a few days a week of start stop in traffic. But summer is 8 months long and heat is problem for AGM and gel.. and flooded too. I don’t like it either..

battery is charging on a 5 amp 30 volt dc power supply. I have it set for 14.9 volts.. i might jack it up and current limit the charge to 2 amps. Its chilly out, i am not conerned about 50 watts of charging overheating the battery. I’ll charge it 20 hrs or so.. or until things stable or it does get a little above ambient.

i drained it down to 9 volts. It is at 12.4 volts at 4 amps. Equalizing (overcharging a bit) doesn’t hurt a battery and is actually a good practice to get maximum life out of it.

We’ll see. It’s not worth much to try to get the last drop out it. Too many sensitive gadgets in a Lariat to mess with a two hundred dollar battery..

Even though AGM batteries recover well from high DOD in my opinion taking one down to 9vdc could very well have damaged it permanently. 10.5vdc is 100% DOD.

Typically good AGM batteries have a life about 900 cycles at 50% Depth of Discharge (~12vdc) and 400 cycles at 80 DOD (~11.5vdc).

Are you connecting the charger to the correct attachment points when charging? The BMS uses sensors to monitor the battery condition and determine its SOC (State of Charge). The proper connection points vary depending on whether your vehicle is S/S or non-S/S. Connecting the charger directly to both battery posts bypasses the sensors and does not allow the BMS to determine the new SOC (from the charge). The BMS determines charge voltage based on what it thinks the SOC is. In order for the BMS to determine a new SOC, the vehicle must be left locked, with all accessories off, no activity (no doors opened, no lock/unlock, etc), and no key in the ignition or fob within sensing range, for 8 full hours. After this period, the BMS should have determined the new SOC and should charge and manage the battery correctly.

In the event that you do have a bad battery and replace it, the BMS must be reset. This requires a diagnostic scan tool or can be done with FORscan. Should you change the type or size of battery (FLA vs AGM or CCAs), the BCM will need to be reprogrammed for the new battery size/type before it will function to its full potential. FORScan can perform this reprogram as well as the scan tool.

15.6 volts on an AGM for charging is where i had the battery set overnight.. given the 32 degrees it is out. It is still taking 4 amps so.. either a cell is toast or it needs a few more hours of charge.. thanks to all of you for your insights.

BMS also will relearn state of charge over time, those sleep cycles I mentioned will reset the calculations. It takes more than 3 I think, or you can reset it via Forscan.

Does the truck sit for long periods of time. And you didn't mention do you have start stop or keyless start?

Start /stop lariat with 2.7. Truck sits fri sat and sun each week.

Just pulled the dc power supply off the battery a bit ago. The battery is sitting at 12.8 volts now. I think the battery though has a bad cell. Beneath the blanket midline down the battery has a few pretty good bulges... it probably has had a bad cell cause the other cells to take too much charge and heat and then gas....
