What does the Owner's manual say?

Never mind, nobody reads those things anyway.

The owners manual is only guidelines. Not real world experience.

Go troll somewhere else. Your post was completely useless and a waste of both of our time. I'd hope you'd have better things in life to do than complain

Not scared to say that I use premium (93 octane) here in Mississippi. For better overall performance, and with our hot and very humid summers, I feel it runs better/smoother on premium. You do get a little power bump as well as you can see on 5Stars dyno sheets showing an increase with just switching to premium (green line vs pink line).

What's the general feeling on non-ethanol fuel? I get 100% gas around here for about 20 cents more a gallon (87 octane); run that 75% of the time and Shell V-Power the rest of the time.

2017 Lariat SCREW 3.5 eco 10 spd. 3.55 locker 21.4 mpg

Heres my experiences, I try to run Sunoco 93 every tank..I get outstanding fuel economy on it not to mention the power and the truck just runs better with it. With a computer controlled knock sensor engine, if you use too low an octane the fuel will knock(preignition) the knock sensor will sense this and tell the timing to pull back till the knock stops..

Bad thing is when you pull back timing you lose power and fuel economy. this is why the programmers want you to run better fuel if you are chipped.

I am lucky to have a Sunoco fuel store close by(Nascar fuel) Yay..

Hope this info helps someone..

Actually, the owners manual provides a ton more accurate information than many of the threads on this forum.

It would have even provided you with the answer to your question.

You might get better MPG by putting premium fuel, but I doubt it will make up for the extra $.

The one thing you want to worry about is the % of ethanol contained in the fuel. Less is better.
I guess I am the odd ball. I use Premium in the summer and while towing. Usually that goes together. If I start towing early or late in the season I just use premium throughout. But I also only change the oil when the IOLM notifies me. The earliest was between 7-8k.

Premium here usually costs about 15% more. Since the storms in Texas, it has been 5-20% difference. Lots of price fluctuations. Right after the storm, regular jumped 10% and Premium was the same. So hard to say right now what the price difference is.

Mileage: hard to get a read due to normal everyday driving. I was getting between 17.5-18.1 this spring. I switched to Premium for the summer towing, not really concerned with the mileage increase. Bumped me to 18.0-18.5 for the first few tanks. My last tank was 19.2 and my current one is at 20.4 but the lie-o-meter is usually about 1.2 - 1.5 mpg high. So about the same.

So just off the top of my head that is about 5-7% increase in mpg. So it won't pay for itself. So for the $12 increase in the cost of a tank of gas, you get about $4-5 back in increase mileage. So it cost ME about $8 more per tank. Doesn't mean much either way for me. I fill up 3 times a month, so ~$25 a month. Your vehicle, your choice. YMMV.

Looking for real world experience. Not the guidelines in the manual.

I'm very well aware of what an owners manual is and how to use one. Just like those MPG numbers on the window sticker. Are those real world or test world? Big difference.

If you really think just switching to premium bumped you up by 20-40 ft-lbs and HP, that's freaking hilarious
