I haven't researched the 10 speed's gearing, but perhaps 3rd is on of the gears where the torque converter locks up. With thicker fluid it would likely feel like a hard transition if there isn't enough drop in the engine RPM.
Mine did it this morning and I was watching the tack. I didn't see more than 1-200 rpm jump. I'm turning down grade when this happens and there's no resistance to the transition so I feel obvious momentary acceleration.
Today was different. After I traveled 2 miles, the truck threw a 'wrench' code right at the bottom of a long hill. If there was boost, I couldn't feel it. I knew I was driving a V6 and not one of the old 300 straights from days of old. I called the dealer and they took me right in. Tech called me a few hours later and asked me how it was running. I said fine right up to the code drop. He said there were 13 codes in the memory and he couldn't see how it could run well with that code mix. They're keeping it to check more tomorrow. I mentioned the skip-surge issue. I'll be back here when I know more ...

Put it in sport mode or tow/haul and load it. Mine only uses second under those circumstances.
Mine also does the surge thing as well. It seems to have gotten better over time. 6500 miles as of now.
Mine does "click" when I accelerate or decelerate in the underdrive gears (1-6). Doesn't seem to affect performance, but I will eventually take it in to have it checked.

I have also noticed this. Transmission is clunky when trans temps are low. Not looking forward to winter in MN

Thanks for the reply's. I'm hoping just a software update. Glad I'm not alone on this. Not a huge issue, but, enough to mention to the dealer when I take it in for service.
