I've got one of those mechanic's stethoscopes. I'll poke around with it and maybe narrow down the area.

Good idea. But I do recommend taking it to the dealer after you get some idea of where it might be. That will help them diagnose and repair. Also, keep your own record of the issue, all dealer visits, etc. If you have to repeatedly take it in and it isn't repaired properly, then you have the leverage possibly to use your state's lemon laws to seek restitution. Not saying the truck is a lemon, nor am I saying that the dealer will try to blow off the issue, but it never hurts to protect yourself in the long run.

So I called the dealer i bought it from this morning. Didn't seem to care or too concerned. Doesn't ask about any symptoms or any details about anything. Says he can look at it tomorrow morning. I reluctantly am going along, assuming okay no big deal, I'll just talk to him when I get there.

Then I just confirm a loaner and he says the dealer does not do any loaners for any ford vehicles..... WHAT ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

So I have a brand new truck with a knock in the engine and they can't offer me a loaner. WTF. Man I'm pissed.

I called my salesman to see what he has to say about it. Hopefully he has something better to say.

KubotaB, I also have the exact same noise issue (as per your video) on my 2017 2nd gen 3.5 ecoboost. Been to the dealer twice with their overnight inspection and no resolution with their acknowledgement of also noting the tapping noise, but no codes, no performance loss, no TSB's, so no resolution. My stethoscope shows the noise is loudest directly above the cam phaser on the rt front cylinder bank. The HPFP located also on the rt cyl bank is located more closer/midway on the valve cover to the firewall and produces a distinctly different and lighter tapping noise. Really curious what the above resolutions were. I still intend another visit to the shop in a couple of months after this cold weather breaks (Minneapolis, Mn). Noise Is loudest at hot idle. I now have 12k miles on truck.

I would really like to know what your dealer says. I have seen others on these forums say they have a similar noise, and some say it is the high pressure fuel pump which I don't believe it is in this issue.

I can't really tell from the video, but sounded like a belt idling. What kind of gas are you using? Have you updated your spark plugs at all?

Also, have you looked into using a catch-can? I hear the 2017 turbos benefit from using catch-cans to reduce valve coverage (not saying that's the case here).

Did you not know what you were buying? Ford’s warranty doesn’t include loaners. So it’s not your dealer’s fault you’re pissed. Should be pissed at yourself for spending that much money and not knowing what you were buying.

In some cases its a dealer courtesy offering, Not a warranty related issue. Dealer offering some goodwill to its customer base. up level cars do and with trucks in the 70k plus its going to be expected

Heck, my Ford dealer provides a loaner car for ALL my warranty work and I didn't even buy the truck from them. I'm driving a new Focus loaner since my trucks been in the shop for leaking oil pan repair.

I think it's unusual for a dealership not to provide a loaner vehicle for new vehicle warranty work. If you purchased your truck from that dealer I don't blame you for being damn PO'd.

Your infinite wisdom is greatly appreciated.

It's courtesy. And they do offer rentals, the service guy was not being reasonable. One call to my sales guy and what do you know, a rental is magically available.

And I was equally pissed at his tone and lack of interest in my issue on the phone.

Is it a rental or loaner? Either one I assume you're not paying for it?
