Nasty noise by the way. Keep us informed on progress.
That's what I thought. Figured no need to waste my time going there for them to tell me nothing's wrong. If it reoccurs, I will definitely be there ASAP.

Google 3.5 Ecoboost knock and you'll see you are not alone on this issue.

Might be the cheap speakers on my laptop, but it almost sounds like a belt slapping on a pulley. Likely wrong. What was the weather when you hear it, damp with high humidity, or dry and warm?
The video was a bit on the short side.

Took the truck out tonight and what do you know, it was knocking when I got home. Drove about 30 miles each way. Checked for noise once we got there, didnt hear anything. Checked on way home when getting gas, didn't hear anything. Checked when I got home and yep sure enough its doing it. Guess I'll be calling the dealer Monday. I can't wait to get the "Oh sir that is normal. Nothing to worry about"

Weather here is cool, 40 daytime, 20s at night the past few days, dry conditions.

Hopefully it'll act up at the dealer. Too many times these trucks seem to straighten up when they know they're going in.

If the truck is brought to the service department, there will be a record kept even if nothing beyond attempted diagnosis was done. Every service gets a service order. For a phone call, no, there would be no record of that.

That's not been my experience. There might be some paper or electronic data collected, but try to at some later date go and have them generate a record.

Have you tried taking the oil cap off while it is making the noise? There have been some 2.7 owners including myself where the noise will come and go and you can realy hear it with the cap off. Its a soft low level thumping noise almost like a knock. Took it to the dealer they "didn't hear anything" so I just drive it and no issues. Could be the same thing.

You would think (or at least hope) there would be some sort of record if you bring it there.

So how does it work if they don't find anything? Is it possible they turn around and try to hit you with a $150 diagnostic bill??

No I didn't try that or even think of it. If I hear the noise again, that will be the first thing I do. Thanks!
