2017-2018 F-150 10R80 - Whine Noise ***SSM 47515***
#42
Interesting...so the SSM claims that the whine is due to the offset nature of the gearset. The gearset isn't offset. The pump is. My understanding of the 10R80 pump is that it's gear driven off the torque converter. So essentially, the whine is happening because the pump gears are not meshing properly. The only way to fix that is to pull the pump and replace it (and even then it probably won't fix the whine). I like how they say there are no long term durability concerns. 150K miles from now the teeth on that pump gear will be completely shot, if not sooner. Poor design.
Just in case anyone wants to know exactly what I'm talking about, here is a picture with the pump on and one with it off. Note the gear...which is connected to the input shaft. Typically, the pump is centered around the shaft...not offset.
Is there anyone lucky enough to have had the pump replaced? If so...did the noise go away?

I am one of the sales managers... Which by the way I am at anyone's disposal for info or buying.
I traded my 2016 Ram despite no issues for the first 30k miles and nothing but grief from everyone about how it's gonna fall apart any moment. I finally gave in and said if I sell them I should drive them(even though I did buy 2 escapes already for the wife). And now my more expensive by almost $15,000 truck and I am dealing with this... Im trying hard to love it I really am.

FYI, here is a link to a YouTube video of a 10R80 teardown. At 11:18 you can see the gear that gopherman outlines in red (looks like the pics are from the same video). At 1:00:30 they disassemble the pump itself.
