2016 Steering feel
 

Hi all
I have a 2016 with 9600 miles on it. Supercrew with 3.5, mfg date 4/16. I am having what I think is an issue with my steering but wanted to ask here to make sure I just wasn't imagining it.
To me, the steering feels like it has a dead zone when the wheel is centered. It turns with very little resistance until it moves maybe 1-2 inches then I can feel it. To me it doesn't feel like
the steering or direction of the vehicle changes in this zone until the wheel is turned further. It also seems to move a lot when I hit a bump,like the wheel will move back and forth.


I read about a software update for the steering but my mfg date is supposed to have it already.

Does anyone understand what I mean or do I need to try and describe it better? It's early in the morning and I worked all night so my storytelling isn't at its best right now.

I do not have such a feel on my 2016 Lariat.

Mine sometimes feels the same. Dead on center and it feels like I'm catching it from side to side. Not big or drastic moves but not right either. Feeling like something isn't tight in the steering linkage. Kinda like the '72 Olds 88 I had.

Mine feels like it should... Sorry for your experience.

Did you put a leveling kit on? Steering rack will fail if you don't unplug it when using impact tools.

Mine has a dead spot...and while it's in that dead spot it wanders all over the place. Some days it's much worse than others. The dealership will lie and tell you it's a normal "performance" characteristic or it's your fault for hitting a curb and messing up your alignment (as they did with me although my vehicle has never hit a curb and was on the rack prior to my visit). If you feel changes in the steering from day to day, it's EPAS. Do you hear any squeaking sounds when turning the wheel? If you have lane keeping, does it get worse or better with it on? With mine, if I turn on lane keeping, the thing wigs out. While going up an uphill curve the other day the truck started pulling hard to the right, then to the left. The rest of the way home, keeping it centered let the vehicle wander all over the road.

No sort of noises from it. Not modified at all, just a factory stock super crew. Today now it doesn't feel like it has it. Maybe its just me. I've not driven it much as I have been taking the car to work, I don't know lol. According to my manufacturing date it should have the patch already. I may cancel my dealer appointment, I don't feel like wasting a morning there anyway.

I've heard this in some reviews and comparison videos about the F-150.

Honestly mine feels sharp throughout the range of the steering wheel.

When on center, if I nudge it left or right, it will track in that direction, even with the smallest input of the wheel.

Mine is an '18 though
