2016 F150 XLT or Lariat
I currently own a 2015 Silverado LTZ and am having problems with the drivers seat continuously breaking ( clips breaking, seat sliding and leather tearing). Including the appointment tomorrow this will be the 5th time I have taken the truck in for the seat. I'm a big guy 5'10 250lbs but no other vehicle I have owned has had these problems. I have never owned a ford. I've owned many cars (nissans, toyotas,lexus,bwm,infiniti,mercedes,chevrolet)2 silverados, 2 rams and a tundra.
With that being said I'm looking to trade my silverado for an f150. I know my silverado matches well with the lariat but the xlt seems to be the volume seller. What are the major differences between the two lariat / xlt and what would you guys recommend?

Mainly cosmetic and some creature comforts. Big differences are factory leather, cooled seats, BLIS, just to name a few. I bought an XLT fairly loaded and I'm very happy.

Lariat is much closer to your LTZ. XLT doesn't come with leather so you would have to go with aftermarket. That actually seems to be a better option as the factory leather in the premium trim packages seem to have issues with stretching and butt prints. Lot's of threads here for you to look through regarding that. I went XLT Sport with Katzkin leather and love it.

There is a pretty massive difference in options. Go to the Ford website and look at the differences. The Lariat's can have the 501A and 502A equipment packages which are way out there in features vs. an XLT. I've owned four F-150's. All of them were XLTs prior to my current Lariat. Huge difference.

I just bought an XLT, and was dead set on a Lariat when I started researching/planning a year ago. The biggest thing that turned my away from the Lariat were the overwhelming complaints about the seat cooling not working properly, and the seat bottom leather stretching and become loose within weeks or months.
It's a big price jump from an XLT to a Lariat; I really liked the features offered on the Lariat. I keep my trucks for years, and put 200k on them. No way I could live with that for 9- 10 years having paid a premium price. Get what works for you my friend.

My opinion...
I was in your same shoes a month ago.
Go to the ford site and build an XLT with whatever options you want, and then build a Lariat with whatever you want, then print out the final list of everything from each build and look at the features and the difference in MSRP. Of course the MSRP totals are off from what you will pay, but the difference between the two totals will give you a pretty good idea of what you will pay for those extra features.
If you spec an XLT with the top package and a ton of options, you will get very close to the Lariat. You will never get leather (can be done better aftermarket) or dual zone A/C.
What did I do? I started looking at Lariat first and then decided to build an XLT with 201A and a ton of options, and ended up with more of a truck than I would have had with a base Lariat and also saved about 4K. I am going to add leather later and I don't care about dual zone A/C.
Hope that helps.
