Default 2016 F150 2.7L EB Oil Analysis

Greetings Forum Members!
In my inaugural post, I'm happy to share the oil analysis from Blackstone labs. I've heard much about fuel fouling the oil and wanted to get a baseline early. This is before the 2nd oil change- First was at 1,500 miles. .

No significant fuel in this beast which was very good to see. Especially since this was the over winter oil and most trips are ~20 minutes.

For reference, the intelligent oil monitor is reporting 47% oil life. I'll report back in 2,000 miles.

Here's the narative from the attached report:

"Congratulations on your new F150! Normally we might see some excess metal and silicon in the first few samples from a new engine just from the initial wear-in of new parts, but most of the metals are reading right at universal averages (which show typical wear for this engine type after about 5,700 miles on the oil). Silicon is a little high, but it's from harmless sealers used during assembly. Iron will probably drop a little more after the next oil change or two. No harmful contamination was found either. You could add 2,000 miles to this fill if you want and check back."

nice to hear about a 2.7 doing well (mine is too almost 10k miles in 5 months) and not about all the negativity lately

I'm not wanting to start an oil brand debate, but what brand are you using just for reference?

Do they analyze for soot (carbon)?

Dealership oil and filter change, so Motorcraft Synthetic blend

I would expect carbon to be captured in the insolubles %

Good report and appears this engine is easier on the oil than the 3.5L.

If you are concerned about fuel dilution might want to use another oil analyzer. I believe Blackstone does not use a direct measurement. I've seen comparisons where they were accurate and others not so much. Viscosity would be an indicator and shows good but having TBN measured also would provide a better picture if not getting direct dilution measurement. Overall, looks great. I had one done for about a 6500 mile change and it showed > 4% dilution direct measurement, but TBN, Viscosity and wear metals were excellent.

Good point- I'll spring for the TBN on the next pull at 6,800 miles.

Good to read.
I'm going to use Motorcraft Synthetic Blend and Motorcraft filters on my 2.7 and plan on doing my first change (myself) at some point after 5000 miles.
