2016 Drivetrain Rust at 6,000 miles
I bought this truck new in Aug. Since then, it has only been driven in South Georgia away from any salt/brackish waters and no off road. (2016 XLT 4WD 2.7L)
The dealer I bought it from said that is was normal and all there trucks have it. I didn't have the time to go to the deal and get under their trucks to check. I wasn't happy with the answer so I got in contact with Regional Customer service. They took about a day to do some investigating. The lady (very nice btw) said the same thing that the dealer said of all the trucks having the rust. She could tell I didn't like the answer and said I could try taking it to another dealer for a second opinion, which I am doing on Friday.
Is anyone else seeing this rust already? It seems odd, and, combined with the vibration in the accelerator when in turn such as off ramps, I'm a little concerned.

I live in Maine where rust is a very serious problem due to all the salt/calcium chloride/whatever else they use on the roads in the winter. I've seen many, many vehicles with rusted out fenders, cab corners, rocker panels, frames, brakes lines, almost every part of the vehicle. The one thing I've never seen is a axle failure from rust. Although it may not be pretty, it'll never cause you problems.

It is ugly, but not something to worry about. If I were you I would take a wire brush or wheel to it, clean up every bit of rust that you can and then apply a good black rust paint. After, apply the oil spray/undercoat of your choice, and re-apply as needed. My axle had a bit of rust when delivered brand new and that is one of the first things I did.
