2015 XLT Backup Sensors Malfunction When Raining
#11
My backup sensors have failed twice now with 6000 miles on my Lariat Scab. Both times have been when wet. Both times they have started working properly again after drying out. I have not had it back to the dealer for the problem as that is pretty inconvienient, so when I get a chance to work on it I will try to diagnose myself. I assume it is a water intrusion problem.
Do you really think this is a "failure"? Put on your parking brake, put the car in reverse, and go put your finger on one of the sensors. Then consider how they work.. they're basically sonar, but dirt cheap so they can be put on a million cars.
Same goes for the guys reporting issues with frost/ice/snow. If the sensor is covered, they don't work.

I've noticed a single sensor, passenger corner, has acted up in the rain. I've only had my truck a week, but there has been 2 occasions (both days cold and wet) where it's read falsely. The first time, I put it in park and back in reverse which solved it. The second time it continued.

These things do just go bad, don't let the service department tell you it's normal, if only one sensor is causing the trouble. If it was typical, all sensors would be affected the same.

Yes, if the system malfunctions I would consider it "failure" of the system. Why would you think I don't know how the system works? I have been a mechanic all of my life and I know how things work. I simply contributed to the thread to tell of my experience.
My 09 FX 4 never gave me any problems like this, and because it happened during the winter after wet and salty road travel, I might assume it may be water intrusion.

Rained here most of yesterday and snowed late and overnight. Sensors worked fine all day yesterday but this morning at 17* they are sounding again in reverse.

So, on my 2011, one of the sensors got too much water in it, and it set off a message in the productivity screen, "Check Rear Park Aid". I got a picture of it, since as soon as it dried out, it went back to working fine.
Took it to the dealer, they replaced the sensor and supposedly packed all 4 connections with dielectric grease, which should've prevented it from happening again. It did, over a year later.
I just went back to the old way of backing up (using my eyes, lol) and let it go, since the truck was then out of warranty.
Guess I'm sad to hear that Ford hasn't fixed this in a new design, or at least packed the connections at the factory.

Having this problem myself. Rain turned to snow and single digit temperatures, looks like its the driver side sensor on the screen. Checked all the sensors and they are clean and free of ice.

I waxed the crap out of my bumpers and put RainX on the camera and sensors. No problems, but that camera is definitely inferior to every other car I've owned. My Ram had a camera in pretty much the same location and never gave me any problems rain or snow
