2015 twin panel moon roof leaking!

Just left the dealer with my twin panel moonroof still leaking. They this is the first of its kind they've seen. No open actions to fix or tsb's they have to call ford but they said it may be awhile because the moon roofs aren't available currently. It pours in on both sides pretty bad even with a garden hose just running over the top. Should have never passed the water test at the plant. Anyone else having any issues.

prodirtraker 03-02-2015 09:54 PM

Damn that sucks. Glad I passed on the moon roof, had the previous version on my 2012 FX4 and never used it enough to justify the cost.

Do you have a lemon law in your state? I'd keep taking it back and demanding a fix. Wash your truck everyday if you have too. This is the point of unacceptable.

Maybe2ndFord 03-02-2015 10:47 PM

Multiple visits to the car wash and no leaks. Hate to hear about problems with your sunroof.

Cowboy Rob 03-02-2015 10:58 PM

This is making me a little nervous, but so far so good. I hope you get it fixed, keep us posted.

GOBLUEJD 03-02-2015 11:11 PM

There is another lengthy thread on this. I suggest you continue convo there as Ford service reps are involved.

Rule #1. Cutting a hole in your roof can cause a leak.

But seriously, and I have asked this before of others, and have not gotten an answer.... Does it leak into the cabin or does it leak into the catch tray and run out the drains?

I'll get a case started and escalated to your regional customer service manager, 15150plat. Please send me a private message with your full name, VIN, servicing dealership, current mileage, and best daytime contact number.

Just noticed this today as well. There is water in the track of the twin moon roof. Ford needs to correct this!

In the track is normal. Outside the track is when you have a problem.

KILOFINAL 03-03-2015 09:48 PM

I didn't realize that water in the tracks is normal. I've had sunroofs before on other vehicles and the tracks were always bone dry.

Shrdlu 03-03-2015 09:58 PM

As posted elsewhere, the water in the tracks should drain through tubes in the side pillars. You can sometimes hear the gurgling in a drive-through car wash

This is probably premature in your case, but in South Florida the tubes can clog with mold because of the rain and humidity. So people pour a dilute bleach solution into the tracks from time to time to keep the system clean.

---

Never mind. I see now you are in Ontario. Perhaps there is an ice blockage in the system?

They put a drain system in there for a reason.

How long have you had your truck and when did you order it?

I have 8000 km on it and I've had it since December 24

jrboarder 05-21-2015 04:14 PM

We too have this issue and it's been three weeks and still no resolve. They have ordered replacement glass and we are told that the glass is on back order and they have no timeline as to when the glass will arrive. This is completely unacceptable ford knows about this issue and is not stepping up.
This is the second f150 we have had issues with and are ready to just turn in the keys as we have only had this one for a couple of months.

jrboarder 06-24-2015 10:43 PM

Well got the call, the glass is in. Was told two hours to replace the rear glass and went back to pick up my truck and the interior is in pieces. Not a happy camper. I am now without a vehicle for two days as they didn't realize what was involved to replace it. At this point the way my luck is going the glass won't make a difference and I will be having to deal with yet another leak and likely an interior that wasn't put back together properly.

Same Here ^^^

No leaks at all.

Platinum_Bill 06-25-2015 08:54 AM

It will be interesting to see how many days they keep the truck. I had to have the rear moon roof panel replaced(damaged during delivery) and it took them 10 days to get it replaced. Only 2 of those days were used in getting the glass to the dealer. So far...no leaks.

jrboarder 06-25-2015 10:54 PM

Well went to pick the truck and it's still leaking. No one can tell me what is the normal amount of water that should be penetrating. They are telling me that at this point the only other option is the body shop. Do they even test for water leaks in the plant? If they do than damage occurred during transport for the truck to have to go to the body shop.

willyqbc 06-26-2015 12:03 PM

Well mine didnt leak March to May.
Went though car wash and was steady stream dripping through driver side.
into the gutter at least. Does not look too good for the years to come

Ebreaux82 12-16-2015 01:10 PM

Has there been a resolution for this??
I bought my platinum on 11/23/15 and noticed heavy condensation building up the inside of my windows within the first week. Found that my sunroof was pouring water inside. The guys at Rogers Ford in Midland are trying to convince me that it is normal. I understand that some water might come in during a car wash under pressure but it should not just pour in like a waterfall with just a bottle of water! If it is normal then Ford can have their truck back and I'll go back to GM!

^I watched your video, and that is not normal and should be addressed. Contact your regional manager if your dealership won't assist. Customer service on this forum is a good starting point, and they can forward your info to the regional manager.

Also leaking drivers side by the handle staining upholstery

So i have purchased the 2015 f150 lariat just over a year ago. I have for the most part been happy with the truck....until this recent sunroof issue where the techs protect themselves by using temporary fixes such as replacing the drain tube. I have news for u....it will repeat the same course of action. This simply is unacceptable and i need answers. Please give me a solution not a band aid

So it just started leaking, you had it in for repair and it's leaking again?

I have not got my truck back i am going off the engineering flaw and videos and diagrams expecting it to leak again i should say....sorry i mis represented myself but i assure it was not simply a kinked drains hose as they said....all of a sudden a ghost kinked my draining hose...come on common sense.tech even stated theres a bigger issue....as in design flaw

Jvizzini 09-01-2016 03:54 PM

Some are saying this is normal. I'm not so sure about that. My 3 month old 2016 is at my Ford dealer getting paint defects repaired and I showed them the leaking roof. They acted completely shocked that it does this. They assured me that is not normal on any level. Despite these issues I love my truck and would not want any other.
