Default 2015 Power steering failure 900km from home.

My truck is currently sitting at the dealership with the electrical power steering all busted up.

Drove all the way to Boston, from Toronto (Ontario) for my sons lacrosse tournament. While there on Sunday had a weird clunking noise coming from the front end. Followed shortly by a full power steering failure.

Ended up not being able to get a rental vehicle as I needed a large SUV or Caravan. It being Sunday, most rental companies were closed and the ones within a 1.5 hour radius that were open (Budget and Avis) Didnt have a large enough vehicle. And would'nt let me drive a vehicle one way anyway.

Ford Roadside assistance was willing to pick up my truck and deliver it to the nearest dealership. Which would mean that id be stuck there without a vehicle. At this point I started looking for a hotel room. Hotel rooms were booked up. Even the room I just booked out of was gone. And the ones that were available were extremely expensive per/night, coming up on 4th of July. Ford roadside would cover up to 500$ for travel expense's, but was looking as if I would easily double or triple that (if I had to stay)

Ended up basically not having a choice as it was myself, wife, 2 boys, my bulldog and a box full of luggage and misc. Drove the truck home. Takes about 11 hours with stopping.

Drove it in this morning to Summit Ford who have always been great to deal with. Ill have to wait and see as the truck now has 65K, who's going to foot the bill. The truck was under 60 up until about 3 weeks ago. (Drove to Philadelphia 2 weekends ago). Its almost as if it has a built in timer to brake down juuuust after you breach 60.

Not exactly happy about the whole ordeal, but still happy enough that my truck got me home safely. Forearms are a little tender tho. Shes not a light girl when shes loaded up with the fam, a full 6.5' box, and 36 gallons of gas in the tank.

Thinking I may be the only one on the 15+ with this issue

End rant.

Worth a shot, if you don't ask, you don't get. Make some calls,

Sometimes Ford may offer a special adjustment program to pay all or part of the cost of certain repairs beyond the terms of the applicable
warranty. Check with your dealer or call 1-800-392-3673 to learn whether
any adjustment program is applicable to your vehicle. Please have your
vehicle identification number available.

Just got off the phone with the service dept.
Problem is the steering rack, and it needs to be replaced.

Cost is roughly 1500 before taxes.

Through Ford Goodwill warranty/assistance,
Ford Canada is offering to pay 50%.
Summit Ford offering to pay for 12.5%.
and the rest on me. $430.XX before taxes.

It's incredible how these sorts of things seems to happen when you are far away from home, and on a holiday weekend.

Glad you were able to make alternate arrangements.

Not the only one--mine fried at 29,000km on my 2015. Ford was awesome about it--put me in a rental 2017 eco-boom (even the same colour as mine lol) within an hour of dropping mine off, and it was done by lunch the next day. All under warranty. It wasnt the load in your truck that made it heavy---these trucks are very heavy steering. I have a Chevy Blazer on 37" tires that is easier to steer with 3psi in the tires when the power steering pump is fried lol.

Edit--oh and they didnt care about my lift, oversized tires or wheel spacers!

Not a bad deal, you must use this dealer often. Ford stepped up to the plate on this.

My steering pump went on my 05', it's definitely a real tough spin if you aren't moving! Parallel parking is an absolute no go!

Glad you made it home and your problem was resolved, nice bonus that Ford paid half, outstanding that the dealer gave you additional help.
