Thanks for the info. I started to play with this last night. To do one background with some overlays wasn't to bad.
Any tips on how to do a quadrant layout and a small center piece? I wanted a different pic for each of the 4 corners then do the ford oval in the center. This has been kicking my *****

Do you have Photoshop? The way I'm doing it is opening a blank document in Photoshop and selecting the size of 800x384. Then I open 4 pictures and copy and paste them into the original blank 800x384 document. When you paste them into original, I'm using free transform to adjust them. After I have the 4 pics, I combine the layers and save it. Then I'll come back and add say like a Ford logo in the center. I did find this template on another forum

I'm not Photoshop expert by any means, but I just started doing it that way by playing around a bit. The hard part is finding pictures and logos to use to make your own wallpaper.
