2015 Leaking Moonroof
#421
I would think that drain tubes would thaw faster than roof...but to me it all depends on how much water is getting in.
On my truck, In heavy rain and car wash I see water coming in, but it's not a stream of water. It's few drops per second. Am I concerned? Heck yeah...but it's not at the level of "it's huge issue". My truck is outside 24-7-365. So will see how it will handle wiNter. Because winter is coming.

I feel the same. How do you think the seals will be a year from now? Five years from now? I can only imagine the leaking getting worse over time. Frankly, it's just not something I want to be concerned about over the long term.

Im Super worried.. planning to keep this truck a long time. Already ordered and on its way... and now I read about these issues. Have an Acadia with moonroof now and never an issue. Humph.

Yeah thats why i think I'm going to opt out i want to keep the truck for awhile. I have a sunroof in my taurus now and i hardly use it so it won't be a huge issue for me.

No glass roof with possible accompanying water leaks or noises.
Ford still builds the best trucks, but they do stumble every so often!

I searched long and hard to find my Lariat without a moonroof. We've had other cars with moonroofs and never used them. For us it's a waste of money and a source of problems down the road.

I bought a 2015 lariat 501a without the moonroof and now I am regretting not getting...can this leak problem really be that bad? I am thinking of getting a different truck with moonroof..this leaking problem seems to be fixable

No doubt ford is still on top. All companies have issues but ford looks and performs the best imo

Using an earlier poster's suggestion, I applied some black caulk to the gap between my sunroof seals (vaseline worked well to prevent a bond to the front/moving seal). Of course no one can see the small dab of caulk from the ground, but from the roof it looks a bit "jerry rigged". BUT!!!, it works! During today's monsoon, I could see about 1 drip every 20 seconds, where before it would have been a steady stream of water.
Prior to doing this, I spoke to my service manager at the local dealership. He assured me the stream of running water entering my gutter system was normal. He said he's only had one customer which has had a problem, and that customer parks under a canopy of trees. The "junk" from the trees combines with the water and clogs his drain tubes. So just make sure you don't park under trees.
Also, I would suggest you don't let any water into the drain system prior to a deep freeze. (the sarcasm is dripping here).
I find it extremely hard to believe that our seals, which allow water to stream into the gutter system of our sunroofs, have been manufactured correctly. I understand the gutter system is working as designed. But what happens when the design fails? (Freezing, clogged, etc).
And I can pretty much answer my own question: Most likely, it will be a few years before the gutters develop enough residue and it fails, and by that point, our vehicles will not be under warranty.
For the most part, I am very satisfied with my truck. The cooling seats were an issue, but Ford is (or has been) trying. With the leaking moonroofs...not so much and I am really unhappy with the design.

Update for my situation. Yesterday an engineer from FORD was brought in to examin my truck. he found that I had the original TP moonroof. He stated my truck did not have the revised assembly and thats why ai was having problems. My build date was 4-29-15. A whole new assembly and moonroof panels were ordered and will be installed at their cost. I will keep yall updated when i get the truck back
