Turbo engines run hotter than ordinarily aspirated engines. They require more care, including regular oil changes. There are basic physical laws that govern all this. Engineers occasionally think they can ignore those laws with a bit of engineering magic. Not being a believer in magic, I hold to the ancient totem "there's no substitute for cubic inches"....

I look for these posts to make an accurate decision on my next purchase. I need to weight my options, so back to the initial post, was it covered under warranty, and was it the Trans? I kept getting lost with all the side conversations on this thread.

I view these as EPA forced power trains and Ford is not doing well in the Expedition or the F150s regarding reliability. We may need a legislative solution to this EPA terrorism.
I can't believe it took 11 pages to finally read a comment like this. I'll one-up and say I kept my 10' 5.4 instead of trading for a newer 5.0...... but truthfully it's because I can't afford to upgrade nor want to yet.

The OP is just venting, let him vent. I'd be pissed too if my truck, regardless or age or cost, crapped out on the highway. I'm lucky my '99, '05 and '13 F150s have never completely let me down. The '05 was one helluva flaky truck though, and I was glad to get rid of it.

There were plenty of folks venting back in the day when mod motors were launching spark plugs like cruise missiles and we all showed some sympathy.

So OP - I hear ya, I feel your pain, your anger is understandable.

To the others - he's not saying YOUR truck is a POS, he's just angry with his. That's his prerogative.

Life happens gentlemen just calm down, when i got my first very own f150 that my parents bought me for graduating after sharing a car with my mom for 3 years it was a 2013 black f150 stx 5.0 it had 34 miles on it, they tried to suprise me with it when i got home from class one day and after all my excitement they tell me the transmission decided to stop working on theyre teip home from the dealler and that the tow truck was on its way so stop whining stuff breaks not everything is perfect this one had 34miles on it ! It just hapoens no need to get your panties in a wad the dealer was kind enough to give us a completely different truck that same day so instead of black i now have a 2013 blue flame stx 5.0 and i couldnt be happier it has 12000 miles on it and hasnt had one issue at all the other one wasnt a piece of **** either it just drew the unlucky trans from the factory its okay though it happens i didnt hate ford and didnt hate my dealler cause no one could of saw that coming no matter how much quality control there is so just caln down get your truck fixed which wont cost you anything since its under warrenty and move on and be happy you have your own truck like i was you could be much less fortunate not all of us can afford a 60k truck

If you drive around and look at all the dealerships in your town regardless of Honda, Toyota, Ford, Chevy......they all have big ol' service departments. Things go wrong with all vehicles, its just the nature of the beast. Like someone else said if you have been lucky things never broke then good for you. Yes it sucks it broke on your new truck but it happens. Hope it gets fixed quick for you.

I agree with you hhjones. These ecoboost were the biggest marketing scam yet. Transmission problems up the azz as well. Took exactly 1.5 yrs to get my issue resolved and the only reason I did is because a friend knew the owner of a dealership. But since I lost 1.5 mpg.

Mechanic seems to think my trans is shot and is ordering a new one. So now I will have a very expensive truck whose service history will reflect a brand new trans at 4500 miles, one could assume I beat the Sh-t out of the truck or just a build issue. Regardless I shouldn't have to deal with this. I buy new trucks and take the beating on depreciation for a peaceful state of mind, knowing my customers will be served on time with no excuses for a truck breaking down. Dependability is why I buy new and this is the first time I have had issues. I am going to see what Ford will do to assist. I sent an email to Ford headquarters explaining my issues and I will have to wait and see.

PS: I don't recall whining, but simply stated the facts, but if you would like to call that whining, so be it and please pass me a tissue.
Ford will do what they SHOULD do and that is FIX you truck. What else do you think they should do? They don't build every part on your truck and cannot guarantee that any part can't fail. If you want them to provide rental call the customer service hotline and complain enough and they probably will. However, I'm quite sure you, like everyone else, was offered an opportunity to purchase an extended warranty/vehicle service contract that would provide a rental if the vehicle had to be put in the shop. If you don't want to take the extended service contract you can still purchase rentalcare which will provide a rental for a situation like this. But if you expect Ford to provide monetary compensation or give you something other than a warranty repair because of this it's not likely to happen.

Hopefully it wont happen again. Trucks are usually dependable, But you may have a lemon, only time will tell. Better now then later. You really haven't bonded with it.
Its too new, but now its broken in. Call it what ever, you have a legitimate bitch.
I've had two F-150s, a Excursion a Bronco. I've had really good luck with my 2010 XLT.
When I saw the 15s tail lights and head lights, well its different. Good Luck with getting it running again.

Default My $.02

The problem I have is that Ford knows there are certain problems, however if the check engine light doesn't come on, they don't know how to fix it.

There was a TSB out for an issue with the vehicle loosing power and bucking on acceleration in my 2011 model. After more than 4 total weeks in the shop, and me speaking to an owner of a 2013 model, did I know enough to explain to the dealership what the problem was. It had to do with a poor design of the shroud for the turbos. it would build up water and when the turbos kicked in, it would throw water into the engine and retard it.

They fixed it once, and it kept happening but because there was no code to reference, they wouldn't fix it.

Mine is truly a POS and would never buy another one. I did more investigation, trouble shooting and more to find the problem before that of the Ford Motor company and dealership. And when you call their customer satisfaction line, they create a record, push it to the area manager who then calls the dealership who then calls me asking the same questions.

FORD - Where quality is no longer job #1!!
