2015 fuel mileage
Here is my question regarding the 2015 aluminum F150
What else can a truck company do to improve fuel mileage besides losing weight (aluminum) and having a better transmission (GM-ford 10 speed tranny partnership)????
Diesel? Costs too much for fuel and the initial engine in the US. I see diesels for pulling big weight and the only way to justify that cost.
Turbo? May be the way to go but you still have to maintain turbos and the saying goes, "there is no replacement for displacement."
Weight reduction and better tranny. Great. What else can they do

Aerodynamics, rolling resistance, engine efficiency, drivetrain efficiency, weight... That's about it...
Hybrid technology has potential, but I don't see truck owners going for it because of the stigma...
I'd like to see solar cells on the cab roof to run as many of the vehicle's electrics as possible... KERS to help with city driving and grade braking?

The 2015 will have active grille shutters (sp?). I guess that goes into the aerodynamic category, but it's still new to the F-150.

We went on a 375 mile trip this weekend. About 300 of it was highway driving. The 5.0 with 3.55 gears got 21mpg average for the entire trip....23 mpg on the 160 mile trip out...now these are great numbers for a V8 powered 4x4 truck. With a loss of about 700lbs, better aeros, a 10 speed trans and some more tweaking....they can get a lot better MPGs outta the 5.0.

grill shutters for areo
smooth out the under carriage protuberances as much as possible for smooth out the air
2wd is easier....but the 4wd may take some serious redo...
how about a suspension that lowers itself at highway speeds to aid in the laminar flow of air, ram is doing that now in jeeps and the new ram truck
diesel electric hybrids, regenerative braking, i think we will see very soon.
i am impressed as heck at my eb mpg compared to the 5.4 and the 5.4 was huge compared to my 1988 5.0 4x4
in terms of mpg
our biggest mpg killer is the fact the eb is so much fun to drive it like you stole it...

Diesel hybrids you mean? I've read some articles that said a diesel hybrid would be too expensive for the average consumer and the engine would be heavy and ineffcient.
