2015+ Frozen Door Latch TSB/ Recall- UPDATED THREAD
#441
All I can say is that after having both doors (SCab) failing to latch on the the first morning of ownership, since I had mine done last month and with a lot of precip including freezing rain here in New England, I haven't experienced the problem since. Given the rise in temps, we'll see if its an issue next winter.

My escalations and emails paid off, and Ford approved me for a buyback earlier this week. Interesting to note, I only requested a buyback mentioning the myriad of issues I was having, but the Ford rep mentioned my buyback was due to "Body Panels". Wondering if the real issue is the aluminum body as the first aluminum body truck was 2015, which was impacted during the door latch recall for 2015-2017 F-150's.
Ill post another update once I am through the buyback process.

I fixed my frozen door latch issue by spraying some PB'Laster in all 4 latches and removed the lower corner drain plug on all 4 doors. It was literally that simple. Besides having a lingering smell of PB'Laster for a few weeks none of my latches froze up after that and I had several morning that were at or below 25 degrees. I'm curious to see how they do next winter.

Heres my update. I had the rain shield done. Didn't work at all wast of time. I had the 2nd recall done. It worked for a good while before failing but just the drivers side pass door worked. I have a extended cab. After the drivers side froze. I pulled the plugs and soaked the latches with CLP. A little each day for 3 days during a good stretch of weather. I also took Black RTV and sealed the doors along the window seal. Water was running in there because of i'm guessing the rain shield. And i sealed around the mirror. I was very neat and unless you look you wont see it.
Yesterday i really washed the truck with a power washer at the car wash. This morning its 25 deg and the doors worked fine. And have been since my last fix. I understand i did nothing to fix the sweating. But i did stop rain from just pouring in the doors as it was.
This morning might be my last chance to test before next winter. My hope is to get by until a fix is found by ford. Or maybe i'll be ok just lubing the latches with CLP along with my seal job. Using the CLP i can smell no odor after a few weeks.

Crazy to read threw this. So far I have been lucky. It only happened a couple of times for the driver side door, but it was after washing the truck, and the following morning being really cold. Never thought anything of it as my last few F150’s have done it, one being an ‘06, and the other being an ‘08. Knock on wood I guess.
