I full agree with you. I had the TSB done last year and then rear latches done a few weeks ago. Crossing my fingers I get a set of latches that are within spec and not on the outer limits of it - as my gut tells me that is what's causing the issue.

Not as bad at the passenger door, I was able to get it to operate normally by exercising the lock rod several times.

This morning, 6 degrees F, the drivers front door, drivers rear door, and of course the passenger rear door were all frozen. Driver's door, the handle wouldn't open. Rear doors, bounced off the body. Was able to get the drivers side doors to work properly after cycling the locks a bunch of times. Passenger rear door latched when I pushed the rod down but wouldn't unlatch like always

Back at the dealer, back in a rental.
excell - thank you for your progress updates. I appear to be 1 step behind you, so I am following very closely (i.e. I am currently between the recall and new latches being installed). I understand you had new latches installed and still having problem. What is your dealership's plan at this point and/or what is Ford instructing them to do next?

Thanks. Just trying to keep the brain dump going. Yea, that pass rear door has had two new latches. The first one, I never left the dealer. Bounced off the jam when I picked it up. Second, it bounced the next day when the temp went under 32 f.

I had a long chat with the service manager today. To make things short -- He said, each time they get a truck back to fix something they already fixed they call the tech line, and then work through anything else it could possibly be. He said the TSB fix still has spots it doesn't cover and still has an area that lets water through so this last time they tried sealing that spot, hoping it would fix, and clearly it didn't. He said their next theory is the handle itself isn't quite sealing properly and letting water into the latch, so they're gonna look at that too when they get it apart again. He also had a lot to say about Ford's two-piece weatherstripping/dew wipe setup and wondered if Ford would go back to a one piece like the 2014.

There was another guy there this morning with an XLT Super Crew, he's on his 6th visit like me. The service manager said he personally has a 2016 he parks outside (as I do) and it's never had an issue, and there just isn't an answer yet to why one essentially identical truck has a problem and another doesn't. I personally got the feeling they really just have no idea yet, other than knowing the problem is there, and putting parts to it hoping anything fixes it.

I did ask about the Super Duty trucks. He said to his knowledge, they have only had one F250 steel body truck, a 2017, in with a frozen latch. This dealer sells a lot of trucks. He's never seen an F350 with one. However, 2018 the Super Duty's are going aluminum body, same as the F150. Got me thinking, I wonder if the steel body trucks mechanisms are the same as ours. Either way, sounds like the new aluminum Super Duty trucks would experience this the same, right? Time will tell I guess.

I'm just so depressed at the whole thing.

Tune in next time...

Is this a huge issue on the 2018's as well? I went to test drive a Silverado yesterday and there is no way I could ever pay what they are asking for that truck. It looks very nice but its just doesn't drive a nicely as the F150.

I am in a similar situation as you. Have had the TSB completed spring 2017, and recall and latches completed December 2017. Some doors still won't latch closed. I have contacted Ford Canada customer relations, the regional service rep has talked with my local dealership and the service department is now working with the tech line to figure out a solution.

To quote the regional service rep "Ford feels there is a solution for your truck". I had to laugh, then asked him what that solution is. Needless to say, he did not have an answer.

Recently it's been warm, mornings around 0 Celsius, so doors have worked past few days. I have been taking a video each day they don't work and started a YouTube channel. I started pushing for some consideration, such as extended warranty, but so far nothing from Ford. They seem to think that it is OK that on any given day I may or may not be able to drive our 1-year-old truck that has been fixed twice so far for the same issue.

Not sure, but I do know some 2017s are having issues. I think it completely underhanded that they sell these to people who live in cold winter climates and not tell them that there is a possibility they could have an issue. Now that there is a recall the savvy purchaser may ask, but my bet is most will have no idea.

Thanks for the update - So disappointing to keep reading stories like this. Truly hope you get a resolution.

On a side note, the Super Duty's went all aluminum in MY 2017 and from what I've heard are also experiencing door lock/latch freezing issues.

I thought I had mine fixed. But recently I installed a remote start and even if I left the doors unlocked in very cold weather 10*F or below. When you trigger the remote start. It locks the doors. And the other day both rear door would not unlock. I'm glad I didn't have to really get into the rear area.
But as soon as I get a chance my truck will be going back to the dealer for the recall...for the third time for the doors. Good luck to everyone.

Yes. Like me....I bought a 2017 XLT Screw on 12-21-17 and have been having the freezing latch issue, but dealer says there's no recall.

Is there a different dealer response if I bring it in now as a malfunction under warranty vs. waiting to...maybe...get a recall notice?

There have been a few reports on here of 2018s with the issue - I have ruled out another F150 until I learn the latches have been changed and no reports of issues. Have you seen that new RAM?

Keep us posted on a solution - I'm waiting on back ordered latches as well and have resorted to the video/log of when it occurs. Absolutely shameful in 2018 on a brand new vehicle, not alone what these cost!

Recall is thru build dates of 12/30/16 - what is your build date? Month/year is on the sticker in the door jamb - actual date is on the window sticker.
