I agree. I personally love my extended cab. I think of it as an upgrade from a regular cab instead of a downgrade from a supercrew.

Mostly a matter of opinion, this cab style discussion. I will add that a pillar doesn't have to "be in the way" nor does a double/super/cab truck have to have a restricted door opening nor an obnoxious clam shell door like Ford chose to keep. The pillars can be your lifeline in a hard rollover. If you have young kids or "others" not thinking about what they're doing, the clam shell doors are problematic-I've had them and was a constant issue.
My old Tundra was a dbl cab (Toyo's name) & had 145" WB while having a nice relatively large, fully independent door with a pillar AND a 6.5' bed too. The back seats were definitely easy access and in every way.
If Ford had "evolved" (IMO) in that direction I'd have ordered that longer bed/super cab but as it is I'm "trying out" a 5.5' bed this time around. I'm not one to get into "brand bashing" but I think Ford is behind the race on this one. Interestingly though, Toyota dropped the 6.5" bed from their lineup-I was told by a lot lizard it was do to low demand-go figure?

The pillar is mostly likely the reason the clam shell doors are still in use. It might have to do with the fact that the body is aluminum and the size of the B pillar required to support the weight of hanging the rear doors from it is HUGE. Take a look at this picture and note the size of the finished crew cab B pillar(circled).

It's tremendous. Now try and envision that same B pillar used on a Supercab.

There is just no room for it. Nor would I want it there. Hanging the rear doors from the C pillar makes the most sense on the Supercab. The seat takes up that space anyway so nothing is lost.

Cool - that actually solves the biggest gripe I have about my '11 S-Cab. Thanks for posting!

What I mean by plastic surgery is how movie stars get carried away with to many surgeries and should have stopped at one or two. Kinda like mods on trucks, some guys just keep going. To each his own that's what keeps the world interesting.

I won't buy a truck any other way. Seeing a Ram with the four car style doors makes me think more passenger car than truck. Also, having the doors open clam style makes it much easier to get large items in. As far as groceries go, man up and drop them in the bed????????

Then you won't be buying new trucks in the relatively near future... Like it or not, there's been an almost industry wide shift to the other doors. Ford will most assuredly switch with the next body style. And nobody ever mentioned groceries in this thread...

It's simple, if they want 4 doors they can get a supercrew. If not they'll buy a supercab. You can't make everyone happy. I'm just glad they left the supercab as a option.
