Default 2015 f150 rear main seal leak.

Just had my truck in for the first oil change. 2015 f150 xlt xtr with 3.5 Eco. Service advisor tells me when I come pick up the truck that the rear main seal is leaking and needs to be replaced. Requires removing the transmission.. S#\%. Anyone else had to deal with this?

Ford trucks are notorious (most trucks are really, but I see a lot of it with Fords over the years) for rear main seal leaks. Good thing it's covered under warranty. Keep an eye on it and document every time it gets repaired. If it becomes a repeat problem there is usually something wrong with the crankshaft or other part fitment that could be more major.

only problem is it's a long process since they have to drop the whole trans, so you're likely to lose half a day or more in the shop.

Do what you can to get a loaner for the day or have someone give you a ride back and hunker down with some work / schoolwork / Netflix / girlfriend.

Default My rear main seal is being replaced as we speak

Just bought the truck with 3.5 ecoboost used with about 33K miles. I noticed oil dripping where the trans. bell housing meets the block. Cleaned up the oil mess and drove a little more and the oil drip was back. Since the truck is used and I just bought it does anyone know what can cause the seal to go bad?

If your truck only has 33K miles, I'd get it to the dealer and let them worry about it. It should still be under warranty and be covered.

I have been having this problem for a while. When my car was new, I still encountered the same problem when oil change is over due. Once I changed oil, the problem was gone.
Yes, I have been suffering from this for the last 4 months not knowing what to do.

The day I drove for some 800km and the problem was gone for a couple of weeks, and then started suffering again.

I changed engine oil, but the problem resisted.

Finally! I changed oil and genuine oil, as I used to use OEM filters.

It has been now 5 days and my vehicle is going fine. no problems at all.

Not suggesting it is a solution, but it worked for me so far.
