I'd hope the reflector on a truck LED would be better quality than one on a $75 flashlight. Sho Me does make nice quality lights for their designed purpose, though.

Sho Me also makes some off road clear LED lights that would probably be great on a F150 with brush guard.

The problem with LED is it doesn't "cut through" like hid or halogen lights. The nice white light scatters. In fog the road in front of you just turns white. I will stay hid as long as I can...but there are a lot of advantages for LED...
Less power needed
Last longer
As bright as hid
Looks really cool <--my favorite part
Trendy

But for all out performance, I still prefer Hid.
Clearly you should read the article again, ford is not only changing the bulb but advancing the lens, Im sure when you see these as a primary driving light they will be better performance then HID and Halogen. Maybe a led bulb in a normal lens like a led flash light yea then hid would be better.

Clearly...

I'm going to take a wait and see approach to this subject.
I am not convinced the new LED headlights are going to provide similar luminance as current HIDs.

I agree, they wouldn't put them on if they sucked, I mean look at rigid industries, I guarentee any LED light they produce will kick the crap out of a halogen or an hid. The r-series LED lights I have in my fogs overpower the hid's on my truck hands down.

Look around in commercial buildings and you'll see tons of LED fixtures being supplemented for High pressure sodium or high intensity discharge lights.
