2015 F150 hit an elk... F*CK

Just popping in to let you know that generally speaking aluminum replace and repair costs are higher. That's just the nature of quality material. But there may not be as big of a difference as you think. Certainly not double. You can read about the IIHS tests on their website, after they chose the 2015 F150 as their top safety pick, which includes aluminum and steel repair cost comparison.
IIHS says it was a 26% difference in cost (aluminum higher, this also accounting for repair time) but even that percentage seems a little steep compared the actual numbers. In this case, for the front end, the aluminum truck was $4,147, vs. $3,759 for the steel truck.
Also, it doesn't look totaled to me.

Hey, it's just a truck. The important thing is that you're ok. My mom hit a bull elk going 45mph in a Chevy Tahoe... it tore the entire passenger side off the car from front bumper to the front of the rear door. Sheriff guessed it weighed about 2400lbs! Like hitting a concrete barrier.
Lucky my dad wasn't in the car. She was shaken up pretty badly, but fine.
If you've got a good insurance company they'll take care of you. If it were me, I'd hope it was totaled. Repaired vehicles from an accident that bad rarely run right.

UPDATE: Adjuster called today and we spoke and he said it will be towed to the repair shop later today that I had chosen when I made the claim the other night. Now the only question is...when can I except to be back on the road?

I had a old lady turning in front of me with our truck not even 6 month old last year and t-boned her with 35 mph. $15,000 CAD damage. I'm sure that you are in that area. Lucky me, Ford dealer bought it back after 12 month with too many warranty issues and forgot that we had the accident. Driving now a 2016 truck.
