Just popping in to let you know that generally speaking aluminum replace and repair costs are higher. That's just the nature of quality material. But there may not be as big of a difference as you think. Certainly not double. You can read about the IIHS tests on their website, after they chose the 2015 F150 as their top safety pick, which includes aluminum and steel repair cost comparison.

IIHS says it was a 26% difference in cost (aluminum higher, this also accounting for repair time) but even that percentage seems a little steep compared the actual numbers. In this case, for the front end, the aluminum truck was $4,147, vs. $3,759 for the steel truck.

Also, it doesn't look totaled to me.

Hey, it's just a truck. The important thing is that you're ok. My mom hit a bull elk going 45mph in a Chevy Tahoe... it tore the entire passenger side off the car from front bumper to the front of the rear door. Sheriff guessed it weighed about 2400lbs! Like hitting a concrete barrier.
Lucky my dad wasn't in the car. She was shaken up pretty badly, but fine.
If you've got a good insurance company they'll take care of you. If it were me, I'd hope it was totaled. Repaired vehicles from an accident that bad rarely run right.

The Sheriff should stop guessing animal weights

We should start a poll...

My guess is $12,000 and 2 months in the body shop once they start working on it.

UPDATE: Adjuster called today and we spoke and he said it will be towed to the repair shop later today that I had chosen when I made the claim the other night. Now the only question is...when can I except to be back on the road?

Yeah. A monster sized bull moose might get up to 2000. An elk? Not ever going to happen. When vehicles collide with moose up here, they are almost always a total loss. Often times with human fatalities.

No-one knows the time frame, you have to account for
Parts availability
how backed up the shop is
the extent of the damage
painting it
do a few more repairs
ect-----Im saying at least 2-4 weeks easy.

Dont you have a rental car on your policy, then you could get a rental till yours id done

Good thing the OP didn't cut out the crash bars, eh?

Curious what warranty issues made a buyback valid? I tried that with issues I've had and it didnt work out.
