Catch's oil in the PCV system. Since this engine is direct injected oil blow by gets on the valves and can gunk them up and lower the life of the engine. The catch can does exactly as the name implies, it catches oil blow by and keeps the engine clean, prolonging the life of the engine. Catch cans are common on boosted vehicles. Obviously you can go a different route if your handy with tools on a much more inexpensive scale, but this is plug and play and will make life easy and provide a clean install.

How many thousands of EB engines are out there w/o a catch can that have zero issues?
