Default 2015 f-150 fuel tank swap from 23 to 36

I removed the original 23 gal. tank and installed a 36 gal. tank. Had to replace the tank, heat shield, skid plate and fuel pump. My fuel gauge is not registering properly, still reads like there is a 23 gal. tank. Is anyone expert enough to know if maybe the dealer used the old pump in place of a new one, I believe the sending unit is in the pump and probably tells the gauge how to read. I would appreciate any insight on this.

The Super Duty guys have their truck reprogrammed when they put in Titan or TF larger replacement tanks. They use Forscan to do it, or take it to the dealer. I'm sure the process is similar for the F150, where they enable or select the larger tank size.

I used all new oem ford parts, and the dealer said it will be correct, but it's not and I would like to know if it's programing, or the wrong pump and sender as the sender is in the pump. I am starting to think only the factory will be able to answer this one.

The IPC needs to be programmed for the larger 36 gallon tank. IDS does not have this ability. However FORScan does. If you search the FORScan sticky thread the information can be found.

If the old fuel pump was used, the fuel gage will not be vey accurate. The pumps will fit either tank, but the gage sending unit is different between the two pumps. The DTE (miles to empty) does require changing parameters, using ForScan.

Dealer said the new pump was used and the part number was verified before the tank was installed. Ford won't help with this issue, they only threatened me with cancelling my warranty because I swapped the tank to the bigger 36 gal. and the truck was built with the 23 gal.

why they even made this an option is crazy. I drove a 2017 5.0 with the dinky tank for 5 weeks and it does suck. It meant 2 extra stops for fuel on our road trip, frankly the dinky tank is downright annoying. I can see why you wanted to change.

You were told 2 weeks ago to use FORSCan to change the size. Why haven't you?

I vented my 23 gallon tank and can put 28 gallons into it with still another 5 gallons of empty space for expansion. The factory tank will hold 33 gallons and for the life of me I can't figure out why they restrict it to 23.
