Hold the gas pedal to the floor when you turn the key over or hit the start button. I only do it for maybe 2 seconds to give the phasers a better chance at getting oil.

I have a 2015 F150 5.0 with 31K miles that was doing the same thing for about a year. Long crank followed by a slight misfire, causing it to shutter, and no check engine light. It usually wasn't an issue if it had been sitting for a while. I dropped it off at a local Ford dealer three times over the past year, each time they claimed they couldn't find anything wrong and told me to bring it back if the check engine light comes on. I also tried several local mechanics who said the same thing. I finally found a mechanic that was willing to look into the issue. They found a random misfire and that bank 1 intake phaser was stuck at 30 degrees advanced. I took that information to the dealer and the repairs were covered under the factory powertrain warranty. However, when I picked the vehicle up the misfire was way worse but the check engine light came on. It turned out that Ford had only warrantied the one side so I had to leave it with the dealer for another two weeks while they replaced the other side. It's running great now with zero issues.

Thats interesting as I have an '18 with 5.0

When I remote start it it seems to crank over more than when I get in, turn the power on and start truck.

Truck is 5 years old, 20k miles, and never had this issue previously. Was hoping it’d go away (was a fluke, weather related, etc), but it hasn’t. I’m still under warranty but haven’t been able to bring it in to dealer yet.

It starts every time, so I’m not overly worried, but it is an annoyance cause it’s not “typical”.

Some research on the forum made it seem like it may be a cam phaser? I’m not sure, but I do know there’s been a couple sporadic times that my push button start hasn’t worked......it’s does a quick split second turn of the engine, but then doesn’t continue.

I always thought that maybe I hit the button too fast or something, but it’s happened maybe 3-5 times in last couple years, so maybe it’s related?
I’m guessing it does have something to do with the cam phaser and oil related. I was having same issues with mine however I noticed that it got worse as oil got dirtier so I guess maybe change the oil sooner and see if it helps. Last oil changed I added seafoam before changing it and also added some injectors cleaner and it’s been cranking fine after that.

That’s interesting because I actually need an oil change. My truck isn’t my daily driver, so it only gets about 5000-6500 miles a year.....so I just change it once a year, which is around now (my light just turned on, even though the crank issue has been occurring for about a month now)

I doubt my oil is dirty given it’s lack of use, but flipside I should prolly check the level to see how much oil is there lol.

And, this makes me remember that I’ve had this issue with it taking longer prior. I dont remember when, but it only happened once or twice so I didn’t give it much thought....so maybe there is a correlation with upcoming oil change needed.

On a previous vehicle of mine, it turned out that the fuel pump / system was not holding pressure, hence the extra second. Is that a possibility hear?

Possibly a leaking injector? Any black smoke at start up?

Posting an update since I finally took my truck in for this issue. (Posted in a few different threads that had come up in the last few months)

Tech first found a leak down in fuel pressure. So, they replaced the fuel pump, and thought it was fixed.

But, shortly after, they went to start it again and this time it *ACTUALLY* threw a check engine light (it’s never thrown any code in the last 6 months of having the issue).

Anyway, code was for cam phaser. Summary details of report: Code was P0016. Camshaft Bank #1 intake completely retarded at -43 degrees. Should be zero/pinned at idle. .... Can turn Bank 1 intake camshaft with wrench while phaser doesn’t move. All other phasers functioning correctly with no movement. Replaced bank 1 camshaft phaser and solenoid. All VCTs now reading zero at idle.

WOW

I am glad this got fixed for you, i guess reading through it seems like your issue was slightly different in that it had issues when Hot rather than warm after sitting for 4-6 hours
