2015 Chevrolet Colorado is the 2015 Motor Trend Truck of the Year

What do these cars have in common? All Motor Trend Car of the Year winners. This award has been a joke for as long as most can remember, so no reason to put much stock in this based on their track record.

If you use the recommended premium fuel, it might get a tad better mpg but the cost per mile will then be higher with the EB.
Motortrend got over 18 in their real-world testing. Another review got over 21 in semi-agressive mixed real-world driving in a 4x4 supercrew. Last I heard regular unleaded was the recommended fuel. No way the cost per mile will be better with the diesel, especially considering the additional maintenance costs of the ecodiesel.

We all know CR's bias against American iron, especially the gas guzzlers, don't we?
Well, surprise, surprise. In their preliminary testing on a loaner F150, they seemed to like it- a lot.
They won't do a full test until they anonymously can buy their own from a dealer, but this little excerpt shows promise. From CR, today:
Ford also introduced a turbocharged
2.7-liter V6 delivering 325 hp and 385 poundfeet
of torque, the smallest engine available
in a full-sized pickup, but we found it plenty
powerful in our limited first drives.
This engine could pull 7,600 pounds and
had no trouble with one staff member's
Airstream trailer. More important, we saw
24 mpg in preliminary testing under realworld,
unloaded conditions.
The lighter weight also meant the F-150
felt almost lively on the road. A big truck
that's fun to drive? Imagine that.

I know "real world mileage" is very very subjective, but the majority of the Colorado/Canyon owners are reporting mpgs greater than the EPA estimates on the forums I've seen. I'll be interested to see what the new Ford numbers are because so far it's been less than impressive.

I see how many F150's listed on this list. Does this mean that F150's were the punchline to the joke every time they were chosen?

Butt hurt? Really? My point is that for the 40 years that I've been reading automotive publications and Motor Trend has long been the butt of many jokes, mainly for their COTY choices. Plenty of documented history here. Does this mean that some of their choices are wrong or that the new Colorado isn't a great truck? No, what it means for those of us who have been following the industry for years is that their opinion borders on being meaningless.

What you said is, and I quote,
This award has been a joke for as long as most can remember, so no reason to put much stock in this based on their track record.
This tells me you don't agree with any award they are giving, which means the times that Ford won the award, it didn't deserve it.
I understand we can't always have the world agree with our opinions, but you can't cherry pick some of their choices and say they are incompetent and take other choices and say they are right.
When someone votes your truck of choice you beat your chest and pat each other on the back, but when the same people vote for something not of your chopice, they are crooked, wrong and paid off. Do you know how childish that sounds to someone reading your posts.
Not everyone is going to always agree with your opinions and choices, you should know that by now.

No, you're missing my point that their opinion is irrelevant.

I bought my 2012 in part based on the opinions from magazine publications. Not only theirs, but I was led to believe that they felt it was a great truck. Now you are telling me they were wrong. Were all of us that believed that Ford was the truck of the year for 2012 duped?
Their magazine sells millions of copies. If everyone thought their opinions were irrelevant, they would have went broke years ago.
I'm just saying. You don't think they are relevant, others think CR is irrelevant, Now another well known magazine says the 2015 F150 is their truck of the year. Are they right this year? What if they vote a Ram next year, will they be a worthless rag then.
All I'm saying is that the magazine writers are voicing an opinion, an opinion can't be wrong. You may not agree with them, but that does not make their opinion wrong. After all there are a lot of Chevy people that whined in 2012 and it did them no good. We are able to buy the best trucks that have been available for sale ever, and it's because of competition. I hate Toyotas, but if they didn't exist, our Fords, Chevys and Rams would not be as good as they are.
Magazine writers opinions are not gospel, no-one will ever agree with all of them, but just because you don't agree with them it does not mean they are wrong.
I"M done with this one.
