Default Front Camera Malfunction

Hello, I'm new to the forum. I have a 2016 F150 Platinum, 3.5 ecoboost, I recently upgraded my Sync 3 from v1.0 to 3.0 two days later a message came up on my instrument cluster stating "Front Camera Malfunction Service Required". Now the front camera, backup camera and the backup lines are all inoperative. I bought an ODB II reader and downloaded FORScan. There were numerous DCTs but most were related to recent battery replacement, I reset them and all went away except U023A and U023B. When I run the APIM on demand self-test I get DCT C1001:01. I have searched high and low but cannot find a thread for this particular issue. I am planning to remove the center dashboard and check the connections on the IPMB.
I took the truck to the dealership and they had it all day for troubleshooting and all they could tell me is they need 2 days to troubleshoot it as they had no idea what to do with it. Needless to say I told them to put it back together and I picked it up.

The U023 codes are both related to loss of communication. I think you are on the right path checking connectors to the IPMB. When you do that, pull the connectors off and check to make sure all the pins are properly seated in the connector and in good shape before re-installing them.

Default Update

I wanted to provide an update on the issue I reported, I found the problem. I received a dash cam for Christmas last year and installed it about six months ago along with the "parked mode" cable using a Bushman "add a circuit" fuse tap. The parked mode cable requires power with the ignition switch on and off so I used fuse #36 in the BCM for constant power. This fuse is for Auto-dimming indoor mirror, rear Heated seat module, Image Processing Module B (IPMB), and Heated Steering Wheel Module. The dash cam and all systems in the vehicle worked normally for six months and then one day the "Front Camera Malfunction" warning came on and all of the cameras stopped working.

I decided to check the IPMB fuse today before I disconnected the front camera and realized that's where I tapped in for power for the dash cam. I checked the fuses for the dash cam and the IPMB and both were good. I removed the "add a circuit" tap and installed just the original fuse and the issue cleared and the cameras were back. Things that make you say hmmmmm! Nothing like self inflicted problems.

This is very interesting - I just wired up my new dashcam using the #23 (PDRG, Inverter, Moonroof, Driver's Window) because that fuse switched on/off with vehicle power. When I went to backup the truck, my reverse camera was scrambled. I restarted the truck reverse camera was fine, but the dashcam was no longer working.

After some reading, I've switch the dashcam power to leech from #35 (restraints, advance trac), which seems okay for now. I'll try #36 if the previous doesn't work out. Although my dashcam hardwire kit has a low voltage shut off, I don't use the vehicle everyday and don't need the dashcam running 24/7.

edit: 35 is a bust - only works intermittently. I better try 36.
